Continuity test - Resistance test / CONT
Any other use or use beyond this is not permitted.
It is forbidden to make any changes to the device. Such
changes can lead to personal injury and malfunctions.
The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage caused
by improper use.
Safety instructions
Warning against dangerous
voltage
Follow the five safety rules
Unlock
Secure against restarting
Determine the absence of voltage. - The absence of voltage
must be determined in accordance with industry standards.
Ground and short circuit
Cover adjacent live parts.
Where technically feasible, work must be carried out wit-
hout any voltage. Do not work with voltages above 90 V.
The transmitter must be switched on before connecting to
cables/lines. Otherwise, dangerous operating states will
not be recognised.
Keep the tool out of the reach of children and never leave
it unattended.
Do not use the tool if you are tired or under the influence
of drugs, alcohol or medicines.
The appliance must not be allowed to become wet. Protect
the appliance against humidity and moisture!
Protect the device from high temperatures, dust and other
environmental influences.
In commercial facilities, the accident prevention regulations
of the Federation of Institutions for Statutory Accident Insu-
rance and Prevention for electrical systems and equipment
must be observed.
If the appliance is to be stored unused for a long period,
the batteries should be removed.
Notes for operation
Visual inspection before starting work
Check the cable insulation for damaged spots, loose and/
or oxidised connections. Never use the appliance when
the power cord is damaged.
It must be assumed that safe operation is no longer
possible if
the device shows visible signs of damage.
the device has stopped working.
Only use the appliance if it is in perfect condition.
Transmitter Switch ON
Press the on/off switch
ALT-LED flashes:
Search tone / TONE activated
18
CONT-LED flashes briefly:
Resistance test /CONT activated
You can change the operating mode using the selector
switch (CONT/TONE).
Search tone / TONE
Connect the red and black test cords depending on the
operating mode. (→
Operation)
Warning!
Cables/wires with twisted cores must not be connected
together.
Switch on the transmitter and select the test tone on the
selector switch. (Button Solid: Continuous tone or Button Alt:
Alternating tone).
Press and hold the Solid or Alt button (> 2 sec) to select the
appropriate frequency for the search button. (→Technical
Data).
If you use several audio transmitters at the same time and
need to differentiate between them, the different frequencies
can be used to differentiate between the search devices.
Switch on the receiver. . The receiver is switched on by
pressing the High or Low buttons. High is the most sensitive
level for searching for weak signals. In the Low position, for
example, the wire pair or cable found is specified.. The unit
is only active for the period when the push-button is pressed.
Touch the tip of the receiver to all the lines in question.
Alternative: Bring the tip of the receiver close to the cable. A
maximum spacing of 60 cm is possible.
The received sound is loudest on the searched line.
When detecting a line, a core or a pair of cores with the
receiver, incorrect or multiple lines can be detected due
to different field strengths of the audio signal. The reciever
may be receiving the audio signal from another line not
connected to the sender. If the field strength is low, the line
locator may not recognise the correct line.
Sound detection can be influenced by various factors,
including: :
Shielded cables/wires
Thickness and type of insulation
Spacing to the transmitter
Fully insulated loads that prevent effective earthing .
Design of the pipeline network
Condition of test device and batteries
Continuity test - Resistance test
/ CONT
When the slide switch is set to CONT, a test voltage is
applied to the test lead. This makes it easy to test the
continuity of cables, contacts or resistors up to 100 kOhm.
The green CONT LED flashes briefly when the test has
been activated, or when the resistance at the test termi-
nals exceeds 100 kOhm. It lights up from bright to dark,
depending on the value of the resistor. This allows an
approximate determination of the resistance.
