To remove:
„ Disconnect the negative (black) wire first, then the positive
(red) wire, being careful not to short across the terminals.
Always abide by the safety warnings provided with the
battery.
NOTE: It is highly recommended that you refer to your
battery manufacturer's instructions for specific charge
times.
PREPARING TO CHARGE
„ If necessary to remove battery from vehicle to charge,
always remove grounded terminal from battery first. Make
sure all accessories in the vehicle are off, so as not to
cause an arc.
„ Be sure area around battery is well ventilated while bat-
tery is being charged.
„ Clean battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from
coming in contact with eyes.
„ Follow the manufacturer's instructions on properly filling
the battery with water if necessary. Always follow the
manufacturer's instructions on charging the battery.
„ Study all battery manufacturer's specific precautions
while charging and recommended rates of charge.
„ Determine voltage of battery by referring to car owner's
manual and make sure that output voltage selector switch
is set at correct voltage. If battery maintainer has adjust-
able charge rate, charge battery initially at lowest rate.
ATTACHING TERMINAL RINGS OR BATTERY
CLAMPS
See Figure 4.
Terminal rings and battery clamps have been included with
the product to support different battery types.
To attach:
„ Disconnect the battery charging cable from the battery
maintainer.
„ Slide the open end of the terminal ring or battery clamp
onto the battery charging cable until it is securely at-
tached.
NOTE: Never start a vehicle if the maintainer is attached
to the vehicle battery.
To remove:
„ Disconnect the battery charging cable from the battery
maintainer.
„ Pull the terminal ring or battery clamp away from the bat-
tery charging cable and store for later use.
OPERATION
CHARGING
See Figures 2-4.
„ Ensure the battery maintainer is off.
„ Connect the battery maintainer to the power supply. Make
sure the power supply is normal household voltage, 120
volts, AC only, 60 Hz.
NOTE: Place the charger on a dry, non-flammable sur-
face as far away from battery as cables permit. Do not
operate maintainer on top of battery, or battery on top
of maintainer.
„ Select the appropriate charging mode for your battery.
„ Once charging begins, the top left LED will flash red.
NOTE: If the top left red LED does not light or if the top
right red LED is flashing or solid, the battery is not charg-
ing properly or no battery is detected. Turn the battery
maintainer off and refer to the Electronic Feedback
section outlined on page 9 for solutions.
„ The battery will become slightly warm to the touch while
charging. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.
„ When charging is complete, the green LED will remain on
continuously. This indicates the battery is fully charged
and the maintainer is in Float Mode.
„ The maintainer will periodically wake from Float Mode to
ensure the battery remains in a fully charged state.
NOTE: This float mode allows you to maintain a healthy
battery for extended periods of time. However, the bat-
tery and the maintainer should be checked occasionally
as certain conditions in the battery or vehicle can cause
excessive current draws.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of injury or explosion, never connect
the clamp and ring terminal connectors together for use
in other applications such as external battery or other
device charging, or to extend the output cable length.
