Starter housing

WARNING! When the recoil spring is
!
wound up in the starter housing it is
under tension and can, if handled
carelessly, pop out and cause personal
injury.
Care must be exercised when replacing
the return spring or the starter cord.
Wear protective glasses and protective
gloves.

Changing a broken or worn starter cord

Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the
crankcase and remove the starter.
Pull out the cord approx. 30 cm (12 inches) and hook
it into the notch in the rim of the pulley. Release the
recoil spring by letting the pulley rotate slowly
backwards.

MAINTENANCE
Undo the bolt in the centre of the pulley and remove
the pulley.
Hold the starter handle and pull the starter cord so
that at least 10mm (0.40") of the spring guide is
visible. Press the starter handle cover at the same
time and slide it out of the starter handle.
If the starter cord is broken inside the starter handle,
press down the cover and push it sideways with the
combination spanner.
Insert and fasten a new starter cord to the pulley. Wind
approx. 3 turns of the starter cord on the starter pulley.
Fit the starter pulley against the return spring so that
the ends of the return spring hook into the starter
pulley. Fit the screw into the centre of the starter
pulley.
Insert the starter cord through the hole in the starter
housing. Insert the starter cord through the starter
handle and the spring guide.
