check the bearing of the roller on the guide rail
and avoid its overheating.
 After the work is completed, put the electric
tool aside only after the motor has come to
a complete standstill - danger of serious
accident!
 When working with a new chain cutter, its tension
must be checked after 10 cutting operations at
the latest (see the section „Tensioning of the
chain cutter").
Important: The chain cutter is a rotating tool.
Cutting edges of the chain cutter can work both
during descent and ascent. See the direction of
rotation marked with the arrow on the safety
guard. Side thrust of the cutting tool must always
be compensated by means of the lateral guide.
Danger of accident! For this reason, never work
without the lateral guide or use one of the guide
frames. If a large mortice is made by plunging
the chain cutter into the workpiece side by side,
it is recommended to proceed in accordance with
Figure 5.
9
Chain cutters (Fig. 1, 2, 4)
Use perfectly sharpened chain cutters
only.
This electric tool is delivered with the chain cutter
designed for mortising. Wide range of chain cutters
for cutting grooves is available.
Chain cutters with pitches B or C are particularly
designed for precise works and require
approximately double time for mortising,
compared to A-pitch chains.
The guide rail which holds the chain cutter must fit
the tool holder of the mortising machine exactly,
with no clearance.
Chain cutters wider than 30 mm must not be used.
The drive sprocket, the chain cutter and the guide
rail together represent the complete chain cutting
tool. Dimensions of these parts must correspond
to each other exactly. Cutting tool combinations
which have been randomly put together are
unacceptable and must not be used, since their
usage invites the risk of serious accidents!
9.1
Replacement of chain cutters (Fig. 1, 2,
4)
WARNING
Risk of accident, electric shock
 Always pull the plug out of the socket before
performing any type of work on the machine.
 Loosen the hand screws (3) of the safety guard
(4) and remove the safety guard.
 Loosen the locking nut (6) and the chain
tensioning screw (7).
 Unscrew the hexagon nuts (5) both on the
guide rail and on the drive spindle. To loosen
the hexagon nut on the drive spindle, lock the
spindle by means of the hexagon key SW 6 and
loosen the hexagon nut using the single-ended
spanner SW 19.
 Remove the complete chain cutting tool.
 Place the new chain cutter on the guide rail.
Make absolutely sure that orientation of cutting
edges of the chain correspond with the direction
of rotation marked with arrows on the safety
guard.
 Replace the complete chain cutting tool in its
position. The drive sprocket must be turned
such that the driving pin on the spindle of the
electric tool engages in the groove of the drive
sprocket.
Only use chain cutters fi tting to the size of
drive sprocket and guide rail.
 Screw the hexagon nuts (5) on again. Tighten the
nut on the drive spindle by means of the single-
sided spanner. For safety reasons, threads of
the drive spindle and of the nut must be free
of grease and moisture. Tighten the nut on the
guide rail by hand only.
 Tighten the chain tensioning screw, adjust the
appropriate chain cutter tension (see below)
and tighten the locking nut.
 Tighten the hexagon nut on the guide rail by
means of the single-sided spanner.
 Install the safety guard back in its place.
For replacement of the drive sprocket or
the complete chain cutting tool, proceed as
described above.
9.2
Tensioning of the chain cutter
WARNING
Risk of accident, electric shock
 Always pull the plug out of the socket before
performing any type of work on the machine.
The chain cutter is correctly tensioned if it can be
lifted by 4 - 6 mm in the middle of the guide rail.
 If the chain cutter is too tight, loosen the
hexagon nut on the guide rail. Loosen the chain
tensioning screw until the correct tension is
achieved.
