Sterilization
CAUTION
1. Do not attempt to sterilize or reuse single-patient use items.
Reusable filter, reusable collector vial: Separate the filter from collector vial and wrap each in
muslin or equivalent paper before autoclaving. Effective sterilization of the filter occurs by steam
autoclaving at 132 °C (270 °F) for 20 minutes for gravity displacement cycles, or 132 °C (270 °F) for 4
minutes for prevacuum cycles (requires minimum 20 minute drying cycle after sterilization). Follow
the steam sterilizer manufacturer's instructions.
Clamp: Heat-pasteurize according to manufacturer's instructions. Do not autoclave.
WARNING
1. To avoid increased flow resistance, do not immerse filter in liquid. To avoid reducing
filtration efficiency, do not attempt to scrub or touch the filter medium. To avoid
retaining harmful residues, do not immerse in liquid or sterilize using ETO.
Inspection
Filter: Inspect for any visible damage to the housing or filter medium before each use. Check filter
flow resistance before every reuse. Discontinue use if the flow resistance is more than 4 cmH
100 L/min.
Collector vial, tubing, drain bag, clamp: Inspect for any visible damage.
Replacement
Single-patient use (D/X800) filter, single-patient use collector vial, tubing, drain bag: These are single-
patient use items. Replace at each circuit change. Do not attempt to sterilize or reuse.
Reusable (Re/X800) filter: The filter is designed to withstand up to 100 autoclave sterilization cycles
at temperatures not to exceed 135 °C, 275 °F. Replace the filter after one year of service or 100
autoclave cycles, whichever occurs first. For your convenience a space is provided on the filter to
note the anticipated retirement date. Calculate an expected filter retirement date based on your
typical use rates.
Replace filter seal if cracked or damaged.
Reusable collector vial: Replace if collector vial is cracked or damaged. Replace drain cap if cracked
or damaged.
Clamp: Replace if visibly damaged.
