7 Cleaning
CAUTION
Improper cleaning
Skin irritation, formation of eczema or infections due to contamination with germs

Clean the product regularly.
Inform the patient.

Clean the orthosis regularly:
1) Remove the straps from the orthosis.
2) Fasten all hook-and-loop closures.
3) Hand-wash the straps and pads in warm water at 30 °C (86 °F) using neutral detergent. Rinse
thoroughly.
4) Allow to air dry. Do not expose to direct heat sources (e.g. sunlight, stove or radiator).
8 Maintenance
The manufacturer requires at least a semi-annual inspection of the product to verify functionality
and check for wear.
The wear and tear parts of the orthotic knee joints are to be replaced by the 170Z99=2, 170X18
and 170X17N=L/R maintenance sets (see fig. 2).
Pads and closures for replacement are shown in the product overview and scope of delivery table
(see fig. 1).
Replacing pads
1) Loosen the screw on the strap guide loop with tube connection by two turns.
2) Push the screw in until a distinct clicking is heard. Use an Allen key to push it in.
3) Unscrew the strap guide loop with tube connection.
4) Remove and replace the pads.
5) Remove the strap guide loops from the end of the support tube.
Replacing the lock
Required materials and tools: 636K13 Loctite, 2 mm Allen key, torque wrench adjustable to

0.5 Nm
1) Remove the retaining ring from the knee axis in the orthotic knee joint.
2) Push the knee axis out to the inside.
→ The orthosis is disassembled in the orthotic knee joint.
3) Loosen the lock screw of the steel cable with the Allen key.
4) Remove the lock screw and pressure ball from the orthotic ankle joint.
5) Remove the retaining ring of the lock axis.
6) Push the lock axis out to the inside.
7) Move the lock with steel cable up and out of the orthotic knee joint and replace the lock.
8) Insert the flange bushings into the lock by hand and press them in lightly using the vice.
9) After pressing them in, finish the flange bushings with a 6H7 reamer.
10) Knot the pull cable at the lock.
INFORMATION: Note that the knot has to be at least 5 cm away from the lock.
11) Put the lower part of the orthosis onto the workbench with the strap guide loops down.
12) Insert the steel cable into the hole in the orthotic knee joint and push it through the base tube.
INFORMATION: Note that the steel cable comes out the back of the base tube but
before the orthotic ankle joint.
