Epico ROMs
Intended purpose
medi Epico ROMs is an elbow brace. The
product is exclusively to be used for the
orthotic fitting of the elbow and only on
unbroken skin or if any wounds have
been properly covered.
Indications
The medi Epico ROMs is indicated for use
when flexion and/or extension and
pronation and supination need to be
limited. It is used to provide support for
conservative treatment for elbow
injuries or following surgery.
This includes:
• Surgical fixation of medial and/or
lateral collateral ligaments
• Conservative therapy of dislocated
elbows
• Surgery on dislocated elbow fractures
• Medial or lateral collateral ligament
reconstructive surgery
• Surgically treated bicep or tricep tears
• Ensuring a positive outcome following
prosthetic limb treatment
Contraindications
If the belts are fastened too tightly, this
may cause lymphatic congestion. For
this reason, the belt bands should be
frequently opened.
Setting the flexion and extension
limits
Your medi Epico ROMs brace is
pre-installed at an extension and flexion
angle of 0°. The ChronoLock device
makes sure that the degree setting of
the brace joint is not changed
unintentionally (e.g. by hitting an
object). For setting of the flexion and/or
extension limit, always turn the
ChronoLock wheel until the control
window is located below the arrow of
the grey fixation button. Now, press the
grey button to set the flexion limits first,
followed by setting the extension limit.
For safety reasons, turn the ChronoLock
wheel into a neutral position out of the
flexion and extension setting range.
Flexion limit:
0°-120°
Extension limit: 0°-120°

Fitting instructions

• Open all the straps and put the brace
on so that its joint lies directly over the
lateral epicondyle. You can adjust the
length of the arm rest with the two
screws on the forearm splint.
• First close the two lower arm belts
(No. 1+2), then the upper arm belts
(No. 3+4).
The pads can be trimmed to size along
the guide lines, using scissors, if
necessary. The straps can be
shortened. To achieve this, loosen the
fastening ends and shorten the straps
as required. Then fasten the strap ends
again so that they are secure.
• Guide one end of the neck strap
through the ring on the arm cuff and
fasten the hook and loop.
• Pass the other end over your shoulder,
guide it through the ring on the hand
rest, and fasten the strap.
The frame of the orthosis is made of
aluminium and can be adjusted as
required. Avoid making alterations close
to the joint area, however.
Important notes
Adjust the extension and flexion limits
on the instructions of your doctor only.
Particularly during the first few days
after traumatic events, the belts should
be slackened often so as to avoid severe
swelling.
