Risk of injury and accident
Each individual step of the installation instructions,
the warning notices, the general safety precautions
and the notes must be followed exactly. If the basic
carrier bars are not mounted correctly, they and the
load could become detached from your vehicle and
thus injure you and others and/or cause damage to
property, including damage to your vehicle.
The roof load creates a greater surface area
exposed to the wind and causes the vehicle to have
a higher center of gravity, thereby changing the
vehicle's driving characteristics. For example, the
additional weight on the roof of the vehicle can
have a detrimental effect on braking, cornering and
acceleration.
Always adapt your driving style to the prevailing
road, traffic and weather conditions, and drive with
particular care when the carrier bars are loaded.
Always drive with extreme caution when driving
with the basic carrier system mounted on the
vehicle, even if it is not loaded.
Never exceed the maximum roof load or the
maximum permissible gross weight for your
vehicle, even when you are using roof attachments
(ski rack, bicycle carrier, etc.). Otherwise, the basic
carrier system, mounted accessories and the
objects attached to them could become detached
from the vehicle, possibly injuring you and other
persons and/or causing damage to property,
including damage to your vehicle.
General safety notes
Please observe the respective installation instructions when
mounting roof attachments (bicycle rack, roof box, etc.).
Bear in mind that the vehicle's dimensions change due to
the mounted basic carrier system.
For safety reasons and to economize on fuel, the basic
carrier bars should be removed from the vehicle when they
are not in use.
Do not put the car through an automatic car wash with the
basic carrier bars mounted.
Important
Objects attached to the basic carrier system's
accessories must not be allowed to restrict the
movement of the sliding roof. The sliding roof could
otherwise be damaged when it is raised.
Payload

The maximum permissible roof load is calculated as follows
(example):
Maximum permissible roof load (1):
minus the assembly weight
of the basic carriers bars (2):
minus the assembly weight
of the accessory (3, 4):
Maximum payload:
Important: E-Class Coupe vehicles (model series
C 207): The maximum permissible loading capacity of
the basic carrier bars is 152 lbs (69.5 kg).
Installation
These installation instructions show the front basic carrier
bar being mounted. Follow the same procedure to mount
the rear basic carrier bar. Enlist the help of another person
when installing the basic carrier bars.

equipment code 413): C-Class (model series W 204),
E-Class (model series W 212), and the E-Class Coupe
(model series C 207), the covers open towards the middle
