Design
The ozone sensor OZE is a diaphragm-covered two-electrode sensor. It
consists essentially of the diaphragm cap and the electrode shaft. The
electrolyte-filled diaphragm cap forms the measuring chamber. A micro-
porous diaphragm in the diaphragm cap allows gasses in the sample water to
diffuse into the measuring chamber. The electrodes of the electrode shaft
project into the measuring chamber. Above the electrodes in the electrode
shaft, the amplifier electronics is located. Above this, the two-wire connection
is located.
Below the electrode shaft, the sensor for temperature compensation is
integrated.
Function
Ozone from the sample water diffuses through the diaphragm into the
measuring chamber and to the working electrode. At the working electrode,
the ozone absorbs an electron. The sensor possesses a negligible cross-
sensitivity to chlorine (< 2 %) such that it can also be used to measure ozone
in a chlorine-containing medium. Because voltage is applied between the
working and the reference electrode, electrical current is generated. The
current is proportional to the concentration of the ozone. The amplifier
electronics converts the current into a standard output signal (of 4-20 mA).
This can be tapped at the two-wire connection and provided to a control unit.
