12.5 Maintenance instructions
Engine oil change:
Drain the engine oil while the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely.
1. Turn the engine switch and fuel cap vent lever to OFF position.
2. Loosen the cover screw and remove the maintenance cover.
3. Place a suitable container next to the engine to catch the used oil.
4. Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick, and drain the oil into the container by tipping the engine
toward the oil filler neck.
5. With the engine in a level position, fill to the top of the oil filler neck with the recommended
engine oil. See section 7.2.
6. Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick securely.
7. Reinstall the maintenance cover and tighten the cover screw securely.
Air filter service:
A dirty air filter will restrict air flow to the carburettor. To prevent carburettor malfunction, service
the air filter regularly. Service more frequently when operating the generator in extremely dusty
areas.
1. Turn the engine switch and fuel cap vent lever to OFF
position.
2. Loosen the cover screw and remove the maintenance
cover.
3. Loosen the air filter cover screw and
remove the air filter cover.
4. Wash the main and outer filter in a solution of household
detergent and warm water, then rinse thoroughly
or wash in non-flammable of high flashpoint solvent. Allow
the air filters to dry thoroughly.
5. Soak the main and outer filter in clean engine oil and
squeeze out the excess oil. The engine will smoke
during the initial start-up if too much oil is left in the air
filters.
Using gasoline or flammable solvent to clean the air
filter can cause a fire or explosion. Use only soapy
water or nonflammable solvent.
Never run the engine without the air filter. Rapid
engine wear will result.
