Entrust the installation and maintenance of
gas-operated machines to licensed techni-
cians only. DIY is absolutely forbidden here.
Gas appliances must be installed in full
compliance with national and local regula-
tions.
The connection to the supply line is carried
out in two manners, depending on model
type.
Dryers with gas connection directly on the
electrical valve:
A 1/2" elbow fitting is delivered in the drum
of the appliance. Assemble a flexible hose to
it (which needs to be connected to the gas
supply line). Then mount the fitting on the
electric valve as follows:
a) unscrew the four screws fastening the
dryer's back panel
b) Fit the elbow on the electric valve using
the 4 screws supplied.
c) Install a gas interception device upstream
of the dryer.
Dryers with gas connection at the rear:
Connect the in-coming gas line to the 1/2"
inlet on the rear of the dryer. Install a gas
interception device upstream of the dryer.
These dryers are delivered ready for opera-
tion on the gas type, pressure and class
indicated in the last page of this manual.
When installing the machine, ensure that it
is suitable for the gas type it is going to be fed
on; the use of types of gas other than the
machine is prepared for will entail bad
combustion and consequently release highly
harmful carbon monoxide. The steam and
fumes outlet is at the back of the appliance.
Diameters are those indicated in the Tech-
nical details table. All models are equipped
with one drain that is used both for the steam
produced by drying and for the combusted gas.
DISCHARGE OF FUMES
The minimum length of the flue is 1 straight
meter plus a 90° bend. The maximum total
length of the flue is 15 mts + one 90° bend.
The chimney must have a smooth inside
surface, made of heat-resistant material
(max. temperature 350°C). The standards
provide detailed instructions concerning the
type and quality of the materials for pipes,
accessories, exhaust ducts, flues and the
like. Cfr.
UNI CIG 7129
UNI CIG 7131.
Use only approved flues. For lengths over
15 mts plus a 90° bend it is necessary to use
insulated flues and greater duct diameters.
WARNING!
- A 90° bend equals a one mt straight flue.
- The control of the air-flue circuit that
ensures the correct burnt gas draught, is
capital for safety purposes. This control
must be done by the installer after all servic-
ing jobs, however partial, involving the
system or the machine.
- All appliances including a burner take in
the air required for combustion and dis-
charge fumes: if combustion takes place
indoors, air must be taken from outdoors by
an appropriate ventilation opening (cfr,
chapter 5.6 AIR EXCHANGE).
However insulated, the flue can heat up and
cause a risk of burns; it is therefore advis-
able to absolutely avoid contact with body
parts. When the flue gets blocked, the gas
supply is closed because the manual-reset
safety thermostat (TS) and the pressure
switch (AL4) trip. The safety thermostat
(TS) will have to be reset by pushing the
black button on thermostat when the tem-
perature at the drum inlet gets back to
normal values, whereas the pressure-switch
stops the machine: to resume operation it
will be necessary to press the START/STOP
push button on the control panel twice.
Before restarting the machine, have the
cause of the block in the flue removed and
the flame controller reset (push-button be-
side the power inlet) by skilled personnel.
Before any jobs on the machine, disconnect
it from the power mains.
SPECIFIC SERVICING FOR GAS-
HEATED MACHINES (EMG S)
Daily servicing
Mesh filter and exhaust fan
Keep the mesh filte, drum walls and exhaust
fan clean; both are accessible opening the
appropriate cleaning lid on the machine's
front panel under the door. The warning
lamps on the control panel indicate how
blocked the mesh filter is. It is capital to
check this, as a filter or fan blocked by dust
and fluff may impair air exchange inside the
machine and determine two important con-
sequences:
1) poor combustion repeatedly triggers safety
thermostat TS and alarm AL4, which stop the
heating and shut down the machine alto-
gether.
2) poor machine performance, which ex-
tends drying time and consequently increases
running costs.
These jobs are very important and can be
carried out directly by the user.
Flame quality
The flame must be blue and spread out; if it
is yellow and irregular, call the technician.
Regular servicing by skilled personnel
WARNING!
The general maintenance described in para-
graph 8.3 is nonetheless applicable.
If one of the following occurs, call the
technical service immediately.
1) Soot, dirt or spots detected on or near the
machine, which for instance may be caused
by burns.
20
2) The flame is not blue and spread out.
3) Unusual noise when under operation.
4) The stopcocks on the gas supply line do
not work properly; for example they do not
shut gas supply completely.
5) If safety devices like AL3, AL4 or the
automatic-reset safety thermostat TS trip
repeatedly.
Measures to be taken in case of gas odour
All combustible gases have a peculiar odour
that enables their detection in the event of a
leak before their concentration becomes dan-
gerous. If such an odour is detected, behave
as follows:
1) Open doors and windows and air the
premises as much as possible.
2) Put all flames off immediately.
3) Shut the stopcock or main gas valve of the
appliance/appliances.
4) Do not smoke or light fire.
5) Do not start any electrical or telephone
appliance.
6) While keeping the stopcock closed, check
that all secondary stopcocks are closed too.
If the system is fed on liquid gas (LPG),
which is heavier than air, in case of an
accidental leak it tends to move downwards.
This is which it will be necessary to "sweep"
the gas residue outdoors.
At any rate call the technical service imme-
diately: they will remove the leak and test
system tightness.
5.8.1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR
CONVERTING DRYER SETTINGS TO
OTHER TYPES OF GAS
Replace the nozzle on the right of the burner
with a nozzle whose diameter meets the table
below (cfr. exploded views – gas heater).
