The tool is positioned over the ring-shaped part to be heated. The coil is then energised
by the alternating current from the mains supply generating a magnetic ield inducing
eddy currents in the ring.
The electrical resistance of the rings will cause it to heat up rapidly which in its turn will
cause the ring to expand. After a pre-determined heating time the ring can be withdrawn.

As magnetic ields with a low frequency penetrate steel to a depth of only a few
millimetres, the roll neck is only heated slightly.
