2. Definitions and pictograms

2.1. Definitions
GB
"Supervisor": Person or department responsible for the
management and safety of use of the product described
in the manual.
"Technician" : Qualified person in charge of the
maintenance operations described in, and authorised
by the user manual, who is competent and familiar with
the product.
"Operator": Operational person involved in the use of
the product as it is intended to be used.
"PPE": Personal protective equipment against falls from
height.
"Connector":
components of a fall-arrest system. This is EN 362
compliant.
"Fall-arrest harness": Body harness designed to arrest
falls. It consists of straps and buckles. It eatures fall-
arrest attachment points marked with an A if they can
be used alone, or marked with A/2 if they are to be used
in combination with another A/2 point. This is EN 361
compliant.
"Belt": Body handling device encircling the waist.
"Work position support lanyard": Component used
to link a belt to and anchor point, or to a structure by
encircling it, in such a way as to offer support.
"Working support": Technique offering a person to
be supported during their work, by tensioned personal
protection equipment, so as avoid falling.
"Restraint": Technique using personal protection
equipment to prevent a person from reaching zones
that could risk falls from height.
"Maximum operating load": Maximum weight of the
operator, equipped with the correct PPE, workwear,
tools and the parts they need to perform the task at
hand.
"Fall-arrester system": Set composed of the following
items:
– Fall-arrest harness.
– Self-retracting fall-arrester, or energy shockabsorber,
or mobile fall prevention device with rigid belaying
upports, or mobile fall prevention device with flexible
belaying supports.
– Anchoring.
– Linking component.

defining one of the following:
– Fall-arrest harness.
– Self-retracting fall-arrester, or energy shockabsorber,
or mobile fall prevention device with rigid belaying
supports, or mobile fall prevention device with flexible
belaying supports.
– Anchoring.
– Linking component.
2.2. Pictograms
DANGER: Placed at the start of the line denotes
instructions to avoid injury to persons, including death,
serious or minor injuries, and damage to the
environment.
IMPORTANT: Placed at the start of the line denotes
instructions to avoid failure or damage to equipment,
but not such as directly endangering the life or health of

the operator or those of others, and/or being likely to
cause environmental damage.
NOTE: Placed at the start of the line denotes

Inspection before use
Check:
• that the connectors, reduction gear and work position
support lanyard length adjustment system are working
correctly and are not deformed.
• that there is no trace of rust.
• the general condition of the lanyard and protective
sleeve,
• that the work position support lanyard shows no trace
of abrasion on the rope and that the seams are not
cut.
• the operator's safety is dependent on the support and
efficiency of the equipment's resistance.
If in doubt, immediately withdraw from service.

4. Function and description

Usage recommendations:
• The work position support lanyard is support
equipment and not a fall arrest system compliant
with the EN 358 Standard. This equipment can only
be used by one person equipped with a work position
support belt.
