7. Installation of a rollclamp anchor system must only
be perfor med using appropriate means and under
safety conditions fully controlling the risks of a fall
by the installer inherent to the configuration of the
site.
8. Use, maintenance and management of a rollclamp
anchor system must be placed under the
responsibility of a user fully informed of the
applicable safety regulations and standards
applicable to this type of equipment and to the
equipment asso ciated to the anchor system. Each
manager, installer and user must have read and
understood the information contained in this
manual. Prior to setting the rollclamp anchor system
into service, the installation must be checked by a
qualified technician to ensure compliance of the
installation with the requirements of the safety study
conducted before hand and with the requirements of
this manual.
9. The user of a rollclamp anchor point must check
and make sure that the rollclamp anchor system
and the associated PPE is compliant at all times. It
should comply with the safety require ments, rules
and standards applicable to these systems and
equipment. The person in charge must make sure
that the associated PPE equipment is compatible
together and with the rollclamp anchor system.
10. The rollclamp anchor system and the associated
equipment must never be used if they are not in
visibly good condi tion. Should you observe any
defective condition or have any doubts as to the
condition of the anchor system, the defect must be
corrected prior to continuing use of the equipment.
A periodic inspection of the rollclamp anchor system
and the associated PPE equipment is mandatory
at least yearly, it must be organised, as indicated in
chapter 11, under the supervision of a technician
qualified for this purpose. This training can be
provided by Tractel
®
. The inspection must be carried
out in com plian ce with Directive 89/656/CEE and
with the require ments of this manual.
11. Prior to each utilisation sequence, the user must
visually inspect the anchor system to make sure
that the system and the associated PPE are in good
operating condition, and that all the equipment is
compatible and is correctly set up and connected.
12. The rollclamp anchor system must only be
used for protection against falls by a worker, in
compliance with the requirements detailed in this
manual. No other use of the system is authorised.
In particular, it must never be used as a
suspension system. It must never be used by
more than one operator at a time.
13. It is prohibited to repair or modify parts of the
rollclamp anchor system, or to install parts not

supplied or not recommended by Tractel
14. When a rollclamp anchor system has served to stop
an operator fall, all of the parts of the anchor
system, and more particularly the energy absorber,
and the PPE equipment concerned by the fall, must
be inspected before it is returned to service. This
inspection must be carried out in compliance with
the requirements of this manual by a technician for
this purpose. The non-reusable components or
elements must be scrapped and replaced in
compliance with the user manuals supplied with the
components or elements by their manufacturer.
15. To ensure user safety, the device or anchor point
must be correctly positioned and the work must be
carried out in such a way as to limit to the minimum
any risk of a fall, as well as the fall height.

2. Definitions and pictograms

2.1 Definitions
"User": Person or service in charge of management
and safe use of the product described in the manual.
"Technician": Qualified person in charge of the mainte -
nance operations described and authorised by the
manual; the technician is understood as qualified and
familiar with the product.
"Installer": Qualified person in charge of installation of
the rollclamp anchor system.
"Operator": Person using the rollclamp anchor system
in compliance with the purpose for which it is designed.
"Connector": Connection elements between compo -
nents of a fall-arrest system. Compliant with standard
EN 362.
"Portable deadman anchor system": system used to
secure a fall-arrest system. Compliant with standard
EN 795-B: 1996 + A1: 2000.
"Attachment point": Point on anchor system to which
operator connects."
"Belay lanyard": Connecting element between an
anchor point and a safety system.
"Securing beam": Structure on which rollclamp anchor
point is installed.
"Fall-arrest harness": Harness worn by worker on
body and designed to stop a fall. The fall-arrest harness
is formed by webbing and buckles. It comprises fall-
arrest attachment points marked with an A if they can be
used alone, or marked with an A/2 if they must be used
in combination with another A/2 point. Compliant with
standard EN 361.
2.2 Pictograms
"DANGER": Placed at the beginning of a line,
designa tes instructions given to prevent injury to
personnel, in particular fatal, serious and light injuries,
and damage to the environment.
