Service, Maintenance, Test and Storage

The following table lists the intervals for service, maintenance, and tests as required in the Federal Republic of Germany. If
necessary, the work must be performed at intervals that differ from those in the table. For checks prior to use see Sect. 6.6.
The tests with full face mask and lung governed demand valve are performed on the complete apparatus (minimum
cylinder pressure: 120 bar).

7.3.1

Warning Device

7.3.1.1 Adjusting the Opening Pressure

The factory setting of the opening pressure of the warning
signal is 105 ± 5 bar. This assures that when even a
2 l/300 bar compressed air cylinder is used, at least 200 l of
air are available when the warning signal sounds. When
using cylinders with a larger air supply (e.g. 4 l/ 200 bar), the
opening pressure can be adjusted lower, however not below
55 ± 5 bar, as specified by EN 137. To adjust the opening
pressure, proceed as follows:
• Unscrew the knurled holding nut of the whistle tube. The
holding nut is secured with low-tight screw-locking
adhesive against unintentional loosening, so that a
wrench with plastic jaws may be required to loosen it.
Remove the holding nut and the whistle tube with two
plastic parts. Below is a spring receptacle whose setting
is countered with a square nut against the connector.
• Unscrew the square counter nut from the spring
receptacle.

• Now the opening pressure of the warning signal can be
adjusted. At the face of the spring receptacle are three
bores. The two small outer bores are used for the two-
pronged key (MSA AUER Part-No. D0140899). Turning
the spring receptacle clockwise increases the opening
pressure, counterclockwise reduces it.
• Between the spring receptacle and the spring is a disc
which can be removed to reduce the opening pressure.
The adjustment range with disc is from approx. 95 bar to
105 bar, without disc from approx. 45 bar to 70 bar.
Attention!
With the disc, the spring receptacle should be screwed
into the connector at least 3 turns, without disc, at least
2.5 turns.
• When the desired opening pressure has been set, the
setting should be secured by countering the square nut
against the connector. If necessary, hold the spring
receptacle with the two-pronged key so that it does not
turn when countering. Secure the counter nut with a drop
of screw-locking adhesive.
• Apply a drop of low-tight screw-locking adhesive (e.g.
Loctite 932) onto the thread of the spring receptacle.
Position whistle tube with plastic parts onto the spring
receptacle and align it such that the dot at its tip points
to the lead seal cap of the pressure reducer.
