TYPE OF PROBLEM
Flame flickers
Inadequate flame producing
smoke and soot
Defective flame, flickering or
flowing out

TROUBLESHOOTING FOR LIGHT OIL BURNERS
POSSIBLE CAUSE
1) Atomization pressure is too low
2) Excessive combustion air
3) Nozzle failure due to fouling or wear
4) Water in the fuel
1) Insufficient combustion air
2) Nozzle failure due to fouling or wear
3) Combustion chamber is the wrong
shape ot too small
4) Nozzle capacity too small for the
combustion chamber volume
5) Refractory lining insuitable or excessive
6) Boiler ducts or flue plugged
7) Atomization pressure too low
1) Excessive draught (only when there is
an aspiration unit in the flue)
2) Nozzle failure due to fouling or wear
3) Water in the fuel
4) Disk fouled
5) Excessive combustion air
6) Air passage between the disk and
opening is closed too much
1) Boiler operating temperature too low
(lower than dew point)
2) High percentage of sulphur in the fuel
3) Smoke temperature too low
(below 180°C)
1) The smoke is excessively cooled
(below 180°C) before exiting the
chimney; this may be because the
chimney is not adequately insulated
inside

REMEDY
1) Return to set value
2) Decrease the combustion air flow rate
3) Clean or replace
4) Eliminate the water from the tank with
the aid of a suitable pump (never use the
burner pump for this purpose)
1) Increase the combustion air flow rate
2) Clean or replace
3) Modify it or decrease the capacity of the
nozzle in relation to the combustion
chamber or replace the boiler
4) Increase capacity by replacing the nozzle
5) Modify or lighten following the
instructions provided by the manufacturer
of the boiler
6) Clean
7) Return to the set value
1) Regulate aspiration rate by modifying the
diameter of the pulley
2) Clean or replace
3) Eliminate the water from the tank with
the aid of a suitable pump (never use the
burner pump for this purpose)
