7.2V Multi-Functional Sharpener

Before Use

Charging the battery
1. Insert the Charger (26) into the Charging Socket (12) on the Multi-function tool. (Fig. VIII)
2. Ensure the ON/OFF Switch (10) on the Multi-function tool is switched to the 'OFF' '0' position
3. Plug Charger (26) into power supply and switch ON
4. The Red Charging LED (11) should illuminate to indicate that the battery is charging
5. Multi-function tool will constantly monitor the condition of the battery when charging
6. When the battery is fully charged the Red Charging LED (11) light will turn 'OFF'
7. Switch 'OFF' the power supply as soon as the battery is charged
8. Disconnect the Battery Charger (26) from the power supply and store in a clean, dry environment
out of the reach of children
9. Normal battery charging time is approximately 3-5 hours for a recently fully discharged battery at
normal temperature. Charging times will vary outside these conditions
10. T he battery does not need to be fully discharged before recharging but a fully charged battery
must not be charged
11. You can interrupt charging at any point to use the Battery. Under normal conditions the Battery
Charger (26) charges at a higher rate but reduces the charging rate as the battery becomes fully
charged.
Battery Charger plugged in
Fully charged
Note: If the light on the Battery Charger fails to illuminate according to the chart above:
• Check all connections and that mains power is switched ON
WARNING: Do not use If battery is faulty, contact your dealer or authorised Silverline service
centre immediately
Initial charge
• The initial charge will vary depending on the existing charge in the battery. Allow the battery to
reach full charge as indicated by the RED Charging LED (11)
• After discharging, recharge the battery completely, charging until the RED Charging LED (11) on
the tool turns 'OFF' , for the next 4 to 5 uses. This will ensure that the battery is performing to its
highest capacity
• Subsequent full charges will take approximately 3-5 hours. However, the battery can be
recharged when the battery is only partially discharged
Re-charging the battery
• After use, a Li-Ion battery must be allowed to cool down before charging
Battery - length of service
• The length of service from each charging cycle will depend on the type of workload. The Battery
Charger (26) and battery for this tool have been designed to provide a long trouble-free working
life. The Multi-function Sharpening Tool protects the battery from over-charging or charging at
too high a rate. However, like all batteries, performance will be reduced over time
To maximise battery life:
• Store and charge the Multi-function Sharpening Tool in a cool area. Temperatures above or below
normal room temperature will reduce battery life
• Never store Li-Ion batteries in a discharged condition. Recharge them immediately after they are
discharged. For storing long term, store fully charged
• All batteries gradually lose their charge, even Li-Ion batteries, but the discharge rate is very low.
If the tool is stored for long periods of time without use, recharge the battery every three to four
months.
Selecting the right belt
• Belts are available in a variety of different grades, the ones included with this product are:
• P180 - Very Fine
• P320 - Very Fine
• P600 - Extra fine
• P1200 - Super fine
• P2500 - Ultra fine
• Use a very fine grit to sand down rough finishes, extra fine grit to smooth the work, and a super/
ultra-fine grit to finish off
• Always use good quality abrasive belts to maximise the quality of the finished task
• It is advisable to do a trial run on a scrap piece of material to determine the optimum grades of
belt for a particular job. If there are still marks on your work after use, try either going back to a
coarser grade and grinding the marks out before recommencing with the original choice of grit,
or try using a new abrasive belt to eliminate the unwanted marks before going on to a finer grit
and finishing the job
