X. FINDING THE BEST LOCATION FOR YOUR
WX-80 MONITOR
For your weather monitor to be effective, you must
place it where it can receive an emergency alert
broadcast and where you can hear its alert tone.
In the United States, the NWS broadcasts a weekly
Test Alert each Wednesday between 11 AM and 1 PM.
To find out the specific test schedule in your area,
contact your local NOAA or NWS office. These offices
are usually listed in the telephone book under "US
Government, Department of Commerce."
Important: The fact that you get clear reception of a
weather broadcast audio signal does NOT guarantee
that an emergency alert tone will trigger your weather
monitor's alert function. Be sure you choose the proper
location for the weather monitor and regularly check
the weather monitor to be sure it is operating properly.
Testing the Alert Tone
To manually test the weather monitor's alert tone and
select a suitable location, perform the following.
1. Turn on the WX-80 weather monitor while holding
down the OFF/PROGRAM button. All LED
indicators will glow and "TESTMODE" will
display on the LCD.
2. Press the ALERT button to test the alert tone function.
The weather monitor will sound the alert tone.
