Installing the diagnostic device
software

This step is also described in the Quick Start
Guide (QSG). You do not need to repeat this
step if you have already followed the steps in
the QSG.

The VCI Manager software identifies the
Mastertech II VCI as ‚6531-Bosch'. This is
how the VCI will be identified in the OEM
software applications. 6531 is an internal
Bosch numbering convention for this VCI
family of products.
Mastertech II VCI is shipped from the facto-
ry without firmware. You must visit https://
www.boschdiagnostics.com/pro to down-
load and install the most current version of
firmware. Part of the software you down-
load is the "VCI Manager." Using this soft-
ware and connecting your Mastertech II VCI
to a USB port on your computer will allow
you to install the most up-to-date version of
firmware.
After downloading and installing the soft-
ware on your computer, follow these steps.
1. Start the "VCI Manager" program.
2. Connect the Mastertech II VCI to your
computer using the USB connecting
cable.
The Mastertech II VCI boots in Recov-

ery mode the first time it is connected
to a computer.
3. Choose the new Mastertech II VCI from
the list shown.
The <Connect> button is renamed to
the <Recover> button. The serial num-
ber of your Mastertech II VCI will not
be displayed when initially connected
to VCI Manager.
4. Press <Recover> to begin the update process.

Do not unplug the Mastertech II VCI from
the computer during the update process.
5. Click <Start update> to install firmware
on the Mastertech II VCI.
6. Click <OK> to continue.
7. The update process will take about
5 minutes to complete. Once the
update process is complete, the
Mastertech II VCI automatically reboots.
The Mastertech II VCI beeps when the
reboot is complete. You can now use
your Mastertech II VCI.

Configuring the Mastertech II VCI
using VCI Manager
Before using the Mastertech II VCI with
any OEM software, you must select how
the computer will communicate with the
VCI. Follow these steps to configure your
Mastertech II VCI to your preference.
