connector must not touch the patient's skin as this could result
in burns.
6. Connect a suitable Erbe neutral electrode cable. For article
numbers, see the section "Accessories".
4.7
What should be done if the neutral electrode
cannot be activated on the electrosurgical unit?
1. Check the connection with the electrosurgical unit. Are there
any problems? Is the connector on the neutral electrode ca-
ble fully inserted in the neutral electrode socket? The elec-
trosurgical unit cannot be activated if the neutral electrode
cable has not been plugged in correctly.
2. Check the neutral electrode unit setting. Is it the correct set-
ting for a split or double-sided neutral electrode?
3. Check the patient's skin. Excessively dry skin, e.g. in winter
or due to advanced age, or due to a predisposing medical
condition, may impair the functionality of the neutral elec-
trode. In this case, use a contact medium to moisten the skin.
(For the article numbers of validated contact media, see the
section "Accessories").

Reducing the risk of accidental tissue damage
WARNING! Do not activate for long periods. The temperature
under the neutral electrode increases when activated for long
periods or when activated for several long periods in quick ses-
sion. The patient is at risk of accidental tissue damage. In this
case, make sure that there are sufficient cooling periods without
activation. For more information, also refer to the User Manual
of the electrosurgical unit. The section describing the type of op-
eration provides important information on the duration of acti-
vation and on the cooling periods.
