instructions about how to receive the correct depth
gauge setting for your saw chain.
(Fig. 110)
WARNING:
increases if the depth gauge setting is too
large!
To adjust the depth gauge setting
Sharpen the cutting teeth before adjusting the depth
gauge setting. See heading
on page 32 . We recommend that you adjust the depth
gauge setting every third time you sharpen the cutting
teeth.
Note:
This recommendation assumes that the length
of the cutting teeth is not reduced excessively.
You will need a flat file and a depth gauge tool to adjust
the depth gauge setting. We recommend that you use
our depth gauge tool to acheive the correct depth gauge
setting and bevel for the depth gauge.
1. Place the depth gauge tool over the chain. Detailed
information regarding how to use the depth gauge
tool, will be found on the package of the depth gauge
tool.
2. File off the tip of the depth gauge that protrudes
through the depth gauge tool. Use the flat file. (Fig.
111)
The depth gauge setting is correct when you no longer
feel resistance as you draw the file along the depth
gauge tool.
To tension the saw chain
WARNING:
jump off and cause serious injury or death.
The more you use a saw chain the longer it becomes. It
is therefore important to adjust the saw chain regularly
to take up the slack.
Do a check of the saw chain tension every time you
refuel. Tension the chain as tightly as possible, but not
so tight that you cannot pull it round freely by hand.
(Fig. 112)
Note:
A new saw chain has a running-in period during
which you should do a check of the tension more
frequently.
1. Undo the bar nut(s) that hold the clutch cover/chain
brake. Use the combination spanner. (Fig. 113)
2. Tighten the bar nuts by hand as tight as you can.

3. Raise the tip of the bar and stretch the saw chain by
tightening the chain tensioning screw. Use the
combination spanner. Tighten the saw chain until it
does not sag from the underside of the bar. (Fig.
114)
4. Tighten the bar nuts using the combination spanner
and lift the tip of the bar at the same time.
5. Make sure that you can pull the saw chain round
freely by hand and that it does not sag from the
underside of the bar. (Fig. 115)
The position of the chain tensioning screw on our
chainsaws varies from model to model. See instructions

out where it is on your model.
Lubrication of the cutting equipment
To do a check of the saw chain lubrication
Do a check of the chain saw lubrication each time you
refuel.
1. Start the product and let it run at 3/4 throttle. Aim the
tip of the bar at a light coloured surface about 20 cm
(8 inches) away.
2. After 1 minute running you should see a distinct line
of oil on the light surface.
To examine the saw chain lubrication if it does not work
Do the following if the saw chain lubrication does not
work:
Do a check of the oil channel in the guide bar to
make sure that it is not blocked. Clean if necessary.
(Fig. 116)
Do a check of the groove in the edge of the guide
bar to make sure that it is clean. Clean if necessary.
(Fig. 117)
Make sure that the bar tip sprocket turns freely and
that the lubricating hole in the guide bar tip sprocket
is not blocked. Clean and lubricate if necessary. (Fig.
118)
If the saw chain lubrication does not work after
completing the steps above, turn to your servicing
dealer.
To do a check of the chain drive sprocket
The clutch drum has a spur sprocket (A) or a rim
sprocket (B). A spur sprocket has the chain sprocket
permanently attached to the clutch drum. A rim sprocket
can be replaced.
(Fig. 119)
Regularly examine the chain drive sprocket for wear.
Replace the chain drive sprocket if there is too much
wear.
Replace the chain drive sprocket when you replace
the saw chain.
