• Tighten the crankcase fastening
screws and in a criss-cross
pattern to a torque value
indicated in the "Maintenance
Manual" for your vehicle
• Carefully check that there are
no signs of resistance on the
crankshaft when tightening
the screws since the minimum
axial pressure on the bearings
would cause a notable loss in
performance and the bearings
would seize after just a few
kilometres.
• Before completing the closure of
the engine, check that, with the
piston and cylinder installed, the
shaft does not interfere with any
other parts when rotated.
• In case of contact, remove
excess metal from crankcase
or cylinder using a small file
or pneumatic tool. Having
completed this operation, clean
carefully using compressed
air and check the correct
functioning of the crankshaft
with the cylinder and piston
(Fig.
1).
