INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE _____________________________________________________________________
Unpacking
• Carefully remove the half mask from the packaging.
• Check that the half mask is complete and free of damage. Immediately contact your supplier in
case of deterioration or missing items.
Storage
• Do not store in temperatures below -20 °C or above +50 °C or in an atmosphere with a relative
humidity above 90%.
• Store the half mask in its original packaging or in a sealed container so that it is protected from
sun, chemicals, moisture, excessive heating, physical damage and dust.
• Shelf life of the correctly stored mask is 5 years from the date of manufacturing.
Prior to use
• Read the user instructions of the half mask and the selected filters.
• Make sure that all components of the half mask are clean and not damaged. Check also the filters
for any visible damage and unsealing. The half mask and/or the filter must not be used if damaged
or incomplete.
• Check that the straps are not twisted when seated in the cover of face blank and they follow the
direction of arrows as shown in fig. 1. Note: when assembling the face blank with the straps, the
gray side (without red strip) is on the top. The red strip shall line the outer face of each strap.
Check the half mask for fit before each usage in uncontaminated area: Place the
palm of the hand over the opening in the filter, inhale and hold your breath for about
5 seconds. If the half mask collapses slightly and no air leaks between the mask and
the face are detected, a good fit has been obtained. If air leaks are detected, reposi-
tion the half mask on the face and readjust it in line with the donning instructions.
Donning the half mask
1) To put on the half mask, take off protective eyewear/ headgear (if worn).
2) Put the head harness on the crown of your head (Fig. 2).
3) Pull the facepiece up to your face while holding the lower neck straps (Fig. 3, valid only for HM502).
4) Place your chin inside the nose cup and position the narrow portion of the facepiece on the nose
bridge (Fig. 4).
5) Fasten the lower neck straps (Fig. 5).
6) With a calm face, remove any slack in the upper top straps by pulling the two end tabs straight
back. Do not tighten at this point (Fig. 6).
7) Remove any slack in the lower neck straps by pulling the two back end tabs forward Do not
tighten at this point (Fig. 7).
8) Tighten the upper and lower straps stepwise. The upper straps must be adjusted first, then the
lower straps must be adjusted. For a comfortable fit, the straps must be adjusted equally on both
sides of the half mask (Fig. 8).
9) If you previously removed your eyewear/ headgear, put it back on at this time.
See the filter's user instructions for detailed information about the filters.
During use
In normal use, breathe slowly and regularly. Be careful about the following warnings when using the
half mask.
Immediately leave the work area and/or replace the half mask and/or filter if;
1. breathing becomes difficult;
2. dizziness or other distress occurs;
3. unusual smell or taste.
Should any of these occur, and you remain in the contaminated work area, you risk
exposure to hazardous quantities of the air contaminant which can result in serious injury,
