The TEST switch is normally released. This button can be actioned
manually and momentarily, or it can be pressed and turned so that it is
actioned until the reading is stabilized. This is a safety and energy
saving feature. The testing voltage generated by the device is
automatically discharged when the Test switch is released.
Before making the test always check::
1 - The low battery indicator is not lighting.
2 - There is not any apparent damage in the testing tips.
3 - Check the continuity of those testing tips by selecting the continuity
function in the 20Ω scale joining the testing tips, and checking the
beeper and the null resistance.
4 - A reading (1) means that the tips are damaged or that the battery is
spent (see battery replacement).
Insulation resistance test
Warning: The insulation tests must be carried out in circuits with no
power supply. Make sure that the circuits are not activated before mak-
ing the tests.
1 - Select the desired testing voltage (250V, 500V or 1000V) by turning the
function selector.
2 - Insert the testing tips in the device input terminals and connect them to the
circuit or component to be tested, between the two points of which we
want to check the insulation. (see the example of cable in the drawing
If the red LED under "LIVE CIRCUIT" starts lighting, do not press the Test
button and disconnect the device from the circuit. The circuit is connected
to the mains and between the two testing points there a certain voltage
The circuit must be released of that voltage before going on with the
tests.
3 - If the red LED does not light, press the "TEST" button. The value of the
insulation resistance will be shown in Megaohms.
NOTE: this instrument has a 3 1⁄2 digits display, so the number of accounts
is 2000, and therefore the maximum reading is 1999. Therefore, if the display
shows the overscale symbol 1, this means that the value of the insulation re-
sistance is higher than 2000 MΩ, and the insulation is considered to be infinite,
