The Vibration-Free Rigid Disc-Clamping System (V.R.D.S.) mechanism
uses a large diameter pressed tapered turntable which allows correction
of disc warp
The V.R.D.S. mechanism uses a aluminum tapered turntable which provides outstanding stability. The
high-precision clamper by presses the disc onto the turntable, which has a very slight angle, and the
same diameter as the disc, and corrects any disc warp.
This revolutionary mechanism allows accurate consistent reading of subtle pits at the center of the
pickup's optical axis, using a pickup precisely adjusted to the same angle as the turntable and
dramatically decreasing unnecessary vibration of the disc. This reduction increases the accuracy of
the pit reading, and thereby obviates to a large extent the need for error correction and servo. The end
result is a reduction in the read error rate, and the use of the servo mechanism. This, in turn, translates
into a reduction of servo-induced vibration of the lens, resulting in noise, together with a corresponding
reduction in noise caused by the whole drive mechanism.
In most current CD player designs, the pickup and turntable motors are physically adjacent, or at least
in close proximity to, each other. This does not make for a strong rigid structure. By contrast, in the P-
70 the disc drive motor is attached to an aluminum housing, which has been produced using an
NC(numerical controlled) milling cutter sharpened machining system. As this is isolated completely
from the pickup, the rigidity and strength of the motor bearings and the pickup base have been
considerably improved. The turntable itself is composed of highly rigid aluminum alloy, and all these
factors, together with the use of a high-reliability, brushless motor with superior reliability and
consistency of performance, add up to a player mechanism which reduces vibration and induced
resonance to a minimum.
