V. SET UP & USE OF YOUR WHEELCHAIR
S. Wheel Locks
Rogue ALX wheelchairs are shipped with one of several different types of wheel locks pre-
installed.
•
Push to Lock
•
Pull to Lock
•
Push to Lock (Flush Mount)
•
Short Thro Scissor
The clamp assembly works the same for all wheel locks.
a. Using a 5mm Allen wrench, turn one of the screws in the
clamp until it runs easily (less than one turn).
b. Repeat the same process with the second of the two
screws so the clamp can be adjusted on the frame.
c. Adjust the clamp toward the rear wheel so, when engaged,
the wheel lock compresses the tire and prevents any wheel movement (Fig. 26).
d. Make sure wheel lock arms embed in tires at least 1/8 inch when locked. If you fail to do
so, the locks may not work (See Fig. 27).
e. Retighten the screws.
Wheel lock clamps requre a torque setting of 100 in/lbs.
Rear wheel locks are NOT designed to slow or stop a moving
wheelchair. Use them only to keep the rear wheels from rolling
when your chair is at a complete stop.
•
NEVER use rear wheel locks to try to slow or stop your
chair when it is moving. Doing so may cause you to veer
out of control.
•
To keep the rear wheels from rolling, always set both rear
wheel locks when you trasnfer to or from your chair.
•
Low pressure in a rear tire may cause the wheel lock on that side to slip and may allow the
wheel to turn when you do not expect it.
•
Ensure lock arms embed in tires at least 1/8 inch when locked. If you fail to do so, the locks
may not work.
DANGER: Failure to read or comply with these instructions may result in a fall or loss of control
causing severe injury to the user or others.
