Handling Dusts Detrimental to Health
Some dusts created by sand-
WARNING
ing, sawing and other opera-
tions contain chemicals known to the State of
California to cause cancer, birth defects and
other reproductive harm.
Some examples of these chemicals are:
– Lead from lead-based paints.
– Crystalline silica from bricks and cement
and other masonry products.
– Arsenic and chromium from chemically-
treated lumber.
Hand/arm vibrations
While working with this
WARNING
power tool, hand/arm vibra-
tions occur. These can lead to health impair-
ments.
The vibration emission
WARNING
value during actual use of
the power tool can differ from the declared
value depending on the ways in which the
tool is used.
It is necessary to identify
WARNING
safety measures to protect
the operator that are based on an estima-
tion of exposure in the actual conditions of
use (taking into account of all parts of the
operating cycle such as the times when the
tool is switched off and when it is running
idle in addition to the trigger time).
Adopt the correct working practices in
order to reduce the exposure to vibration:
– in the case of strong vibration, take the
recommended work breaks or change
your task more frequently,
– keep your hands warm,
– while working, only grip the power tool
as firmly as necessary,
– work only with technically sound
machines and application tools,
6
– Asbestos and materials containing asbes-
tos.
– Wood dust from beech and oak wood.
Your risk from these exposures varies,
depending on how often you do this type
of work. To reduce your exposure to these
chemicals: work in a well ventilated area,
and work with approved safety equipment,
such as those dust masks that are specially
designed to filter out microscopic particles.
– select the oscillating frequency according
to the FEIN operating data; avoid reso-
nance,
– use the FEIN vibration-absorbing, gel
working gloves.
If these recommendations are not
observed, the exposure to strong vibration
during daily work over a longer period of
time can be detrimental to health.
To prognosticate the vibration exposition,
you can use the weighted acceleration value
determined in the laboratory (see the
Vibrations table). During work, weighted
accelerations will be dependent on the par-
ticular application, and deviation from this
laboratory value can occur.
