Intended Use:
The 3M™ Littmann
®
Master Cardiology™ Stethoscope is intended for use by healthcare professionals for medical diagnostic
purposes only. It can be used for auscultation of heart, lung, and other body sounds.
Please report a serious incident occurring in relation to the device to 3M and the local competent authority (EU) or local regulatory authority.
Instructions for Use (see Figures pp.1):
• Place the Stethoscope in Your Ears: The eartips should point forward toward your nose (Figure 1).
• Adjust the Headset Tension for Comfort and Sound Quality: Pull the eartubes apart (Figure 2) or squeeze them together (Figure 3).
• Listen to Low and High Frequency Sounds with the Littmann Tunable Diaphragm:
To emphasize lower frequency sounds, use light pressure against the patient (Figure 4).
o
To emphasize higher frequency sounds, use firm pressure against the patient (Figure 5).
o
Removing the Diaphragm:
Remove the two-piece rim/diaphragm assembly by rolling the rim off the edge of the chestpiece. Then remove the diaphragm from the rim.
Assembly of the Tunable Diaphragm:
Put the rim on the diaphragm by starting with the rim positioned above the legible side of the diaphragm and inserting the edge of the diaphragm
into the rim (Figure 6). Then attach the rim/diaphragm assembly to the chestpiece by slowly rolling the rim around and over the chestpiece edge
using both thumbs (Figure 7). Visually inspect the flexible edge of the diaphragm where it meets the rim and adjust as needed to achieve a smooth
fit (Figure 8).
Special Procedures Adaptor for Small Site Auscultation (included in box):
Use the Special Procedures Adaptor for pediatric or thin patients and for difficult-site auscultation such as carotid assessment. Attach the adaptor to
the chestpiece by pressing it over the diaphragm (Figure 9).
Cleaning, Disinfection and Storage:
Clean between exams using a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or disposable wipe with soap and water. A 2% bleach solution may be used to disinfect
your stethoscope; however, the tubing may become discolored after exposure to bleach.
The rim/diaphragm assembly, special procedures adaptor, and eartips may be removed for cleaning. Ensure all parts and surfaces are dry before
reassembly. To remove eartips from the headset, pull firmly (Figure 10). To attach eartips, push the small side firmly onto the eartube until it snaps
fully into place (Figure 11). To prevent ear canal injury, be sure eartips are firmly attached to the headset before inserting them into your ears.
To prevent stethoscope damage, do not: immerse your stethoscope in any liquid, subject your stethoscope to any sterilization process, or store in
extreme heat. To prevent staining of stethoscope tubing, avoid contact with pens, markers, newsprint, or other printed material. It is good practice to
wear your stethoscope over a collar whenever possible.
Disposal: Dispose of contents/container in accordance with the local/regional/national/international regulations.
Littmann Stethoscope Service and Warranty Program: The Littmann Master Cardiology stethoscope is warranted against any defects in material
and workmanship for a period of seven (7) years. Within the warranty period, repairs will be made without charge upon the return of the stethoscope
