OPERATING PRINCIPLES

The gas-fired infrared thermal weeder eradicates weeds
through thermal shock from a flame. The abrupt rise in
temperature bursts the plant cells, destroying the weed.
The weeder is for use on driveways, footpaths, paved
areas, patios & forecourts, outdoor stairways, vegetable
gardens, ... The weeder is for outdoor use only. This type
of weeding is eco-friendly (no chemicals or herbicides
applied) and easy for an amateur gardener to use. It
enables weeding without straining your back.

PREPARATION OF INFRARED WEEDER
- This product can be used with either a standard
Butane/Propane mix Gas Cartridge for convenience
and portability OR by using the supplied adaptor to
connect to a Propane or Butane Gas Bottle (with hose
and high-pressure regulator, not supplied)
- If the device is used with a gas cartridge, then the
HOZELOCK cartridge containing LPG (Butane/Propane
mix – ref 284057) under pressure is recommended
(Fig 2).
This appliance may also be used with any 330g or
350g cartridge marked Butane or Butane-Propane Mix
complying with EN417. It may be hazardous to fit other
type of gas cartridges or gas cylinders.
- If the device is to be connected to a gas bottle, (Fig 8)
then only a 5-13 Kg Butane or Propane gas bottle should
be used along with a gas pressure regulator approved to
EN16129 with an outlet pressure between 2.5 Bar and
50mBar.
The gas bottle regulator and hose connections are
specific and different depending on the country you
are in, so please ensure you use the correct fittings.
- If using a gas bottle then care should be taken to
ensure the gas bottle uses an LPG pressure regulator
(compliant with EN16129) and a suitable gas hose
(compliant with EN16436-1). Ensure the Infrared
Weeder control valve and the gas bottle valve are turned
'OFF' and then connect the end of the gas hose to the
high-pressure regulator and the gas bottle (Fig 6).
The connections to the regulator and gas bottle
should be tightened with spanners.
The Adaptor supplied with the product should then
be screwed (smaller 7/16th thread) to the EN417
connection under the Infrared Weeder handle (Figs
3,4 &5). You can use a spanner to screw in the adapter.
Then connect the gas hose (G3/8"-19 left hand thread)
to the adaptor (Fig 7), tightening firmly to ensure no
movement. The two screw threads tighten in opposite
directions so you will need 2 spanners (Fig. 7). Do not
force of over tighten the connections.
- It may be hazardous to fit other type of hoses or
regulators.
- Ensure that the gas hose is not twisted if a gas bottle
and hose are used.
- Never connect a compressed gas cartridge, bottle, or
regulator unless you have read and
followed the instructions on them.
- Ensure that the Infrared Weeder is in the 'OFF'
position (handle valve 'OFF').
- Check that the seals (between the heating torch and
the gas container) are in place and in good condition
before making the connections. (Fig. 1)
- Do not use the appliance if it has been damaged or
the seals are worn.
- Do not use a heating torch which is leaking, damaged
or which does not operate properly.
- Always connect the gas cartridge or gas bottle
outdoors, or in a well ventilated room, away from any
sources of ignition and away from other people.
- Tightly screw the pressurized gas canister (or adaptor
with gas hose) by hand to the Infrared Weeder in the
clockwise direction (Fig 2).
- Check the airtightness on fittings using a specific
spray or soapy water.
- If there is a leak on your heating torch (smell of gas),
take it outside immediately into a well-ventilated free
location where the leak may be detected and stopped.
If you wish to check for leaks on your heating torch,
always do this outside.
- Do not try to detect leaks using a flame, use soapy
water.
- Do not use hoses between the Infrared Weeder and a
compressed gas cartridge.
- Avoid dropping the Infrared Weeder on hard
surfaces.
