13 Introduction
enables Wi-Fi access points to serve multiple clients
simultaneously. For example, if two laptops are in a
network transmitting data over the same channel,
OFDMA ensures that each laptop is assigned one
or more narrow frequency blocks (RUs = Resource
Units). The Wi-Fi devices are assigned the Resource
Units depending on the application being used
and the bandwidth needed.
The RUs are transmitted simultaneously. As a re-
sult, the data are transferred without delay. When
large and/or small amounts of data are transmit-
ted simultaneously, the dynamically assigned RUs
ensure optimised data throughput without notice-
able latency.
