PT control
Intended purpose
medi PT control is a patellar luxation
brace. The product is exclusively to be
used for the orthotic fitting of the knee
and only on unbroken skin.
Indications
• Conservative or operative treatment
of patella luxation in connection with
a slight to medium knee instability
• Lateral misalignment in connection
with a slight to medium knee
instability
• Following lateral release operations
• Retropatellar cartilage surgery
Contraindications
None known to date.
Setting the flexion / extension limits
Only to be carried out by an
orthopedic technician.
Extension limit wedge, EXT (limits
extension): 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°
Flexion limit wedge, FLEX (limits flexion):
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°
Can be immobilised at:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°
For immobilising the orthosis first insert
the flexion wedge and then the
corresponding extension wedge.
The medial (inside) and the lateral
(outside) wedge settings must
always be the same.
1. Your knee brace is provided with
pre-installed 10° extension wedges
and 90° flexion wedges.
2. In order to change the wedges, push
the joint cover from the back toward
the outside (see profile).
3. To change the wedges, remove the
tweezers from the joint cover and use
them to simply pull the wedges
toward the front (extension) or
toward the back (flexion) out of the
joint. Each wedge is labelled with
„FLEX" or „EXT" and with the
respective degree setting. Another
distinguishing feature is the different
colour of the wedges. Extension
wedges are silver and flexion wedges
are black. Insert the new wedge from
the front (extension) or from the back
(flexion) into the joint so that the „UP"
marking on the joint and on the
wedge correspond. A clicking sound
confirms that the wedge has
interlocked.
4. Move the brace joint and test the
position of the wedges. Now put back
the tweezers into the holder and
attach the joint cover again by
hooking the two catches of the joint
cover onto the front of the joint and
then pushing the cover onto the joint.
A clicking sound confirms that the
joint cover is fastened securely.
Important notes
Only change the extension and flexion
limits on instruction from your doctor
or orthotist. In order to prevent
hyper extension, always insert extension
wedges or 0° wedges. The wedges define
the exact excursion of the orthosis. In
difficult soft-tissue conditions, e.g. where
the soft-tissues are under compression,
it may be necessary to insert the larger
wedge to limit the joint movement to the
desired excursion. In addition, make sure
that the orthosis hinges are correctly
positioned: the middles of the hinges
should be level with the upper border of
the patella. The hinge must lie behind
the midline of the leg.

Fitting instructions

• Open all the straps so that they will
not interfere with you putting on the
brace.
