by hand)
Use suitable detectors to find hidden utility lines
or call the local utility company for assistance
(contact with electric lines can lead to fire or electrical
shock; damaging a gas line can result in an explosion;
penetrating a water pipe will cause property damage or
an electrical shock)
Ensure that direction-of-rotation selector B 2 is in the
middle (locking) position before making any adjustments
or changing accessories as well as when carrying or
storing the tool.
Be aware of the forces that occur as a result of jamming
(especially when drilling metals); always use auxiliary
handle J and take a secure stance
ACCESSORIES
SKIL can assure flawless functioning of the tool only
when original accessories are used
Use only accessories with an allowable speed matching
at least the highest no-load speed of the tool
AFTER USE
When you put away the tool, switch off the motor and
ensure that all moving parts have come to a complete
standstill
BATTERIES
The battery supplied is partially charged (to ensure
full capacity of the battery, completely charge the battery
in the battery charger before using your power tool for
the first time).
Only use the following batteries and chargers with
this tool
- SKIL battery: BR1*31****
- SKIL charger: CR1*31****
Do not use the battery when damaged; it should be
replaced immediately
Do not disassemble the battery
Do not expose tool/battery to rain
Permitted ambient temperature (tool/charger/battery):
- when charging 4...40
C
o
- during operation -20...+50
- during storage -20...+50
EXPLANATION OF SYMBOLS ON TOOL/BATTERY
3 Read the instruction manual before use
4 Batteries may explode when disposed of in fire, so do not
burn battery for any reason
5 Store tool/charger/battery in locations where temperature
will not exceed 50

6 Do not dispose of electric tools and batteries together
with household waste material
USE
Charging battery
! read the safety warnings and instructions provided
with the charger
Removing/installing the battery 2
Battery level indicator 7
- press the battery level indicator button G to show the
current battery level 7a
! when the lowest level of the battery indicator
starts flashing after pressing button G7b, the
battery is empty
! when 2 levels of the battery indicator start flashing
after pressing button G7c, the battery is not
within the allowable operating temperature range

The tool is suddenly being switched off or prevented from
being switched on, when
- the load is too high --> remove load and restart
- the battery temperature is not within the allowable
operating temperature range of -20 to +50
levels of the battery level indicator start flashing when
pressing button G7c; wait until battery has returned
within the allowable operating temperature range
- the battery is nearly empty (to protect against
deep discharge) --> a low battery level or flashing low
battery level 7b is shown by the battery level indicator
when pressing button G; charge battery
! do not continue to press the on/off switch after the
tool is switched off automatically; battery may be
damaged
Changing direction of rotation 8
- when not properly set in left/right position, switch B2
cannot be activated
! change direction of rotation only when tool is at a
complete standstill
Installing and removing bits 9a & 9b
! clean and lightly lubricate the SDS+ accessory
before insertion
- insert accessory in SDS+ chuck while turning and
pushing it until it engages; the accessory locks in
position automatically
- pull accessory to check that it is locked correctly
- remove accessory by pulling back locking sleeve D
! the SDS+ accessory requires freedom of
movement which causes eccentricity when tool
is off-load; however, the accessory automatically
centres itself during operation without affecting
drilling precision
! do not use bits with a damaged shank
Combined switch for on/off q and speed control w
- control the speed steplessly from zero to maximum by
putting less or more pressure on the switch B
Selecting operating mode e
- turn switch C to the desired operating mode until it
snap-locks
1 = normal drilling/screwdriving
2 = impact drilling
3 = chiseling with rotating chisel
4 = chiseling with fixed chisel
! select operating mode only when tool is switched
off and battery is removed
- the hammer mechanism is activated by applying
a slight pressure on the tool when the drill bit is in
contact with the workpiece
- it takes a short time for the hammer mechanism to
reach full impact power
- best hammer drilling results can be obtained by only a
slight pressure on the tool; drilling performance will not
improve by applying more pressure on the tool
Chiseling with fixed chisel r
! switch off the tool and remove the battery
- select "rotating" chiseling mode
- place chisel in desired position
- select "fixed" chiseling mode
LED-light t
- LED-light E automatically lights on when activating the
switch B
! when LED worklight starts flashing, the battery
