Connecting the flexible MABS probes
First of all, ensure that both the HF generator and the gas supply unit (Argon Beamer) are
ready for operation. Then, verify that the gas cylinder valve is open and there is enough gas
available (> 30 bar).
1. Take the MABS connecting cable and MABS probe from the container under sterile con-
ditions.
2. Visually check the instrument for insulation damage. Never use defective instruments! Mar-
tin also warns against repairing insulation defects because the instrument is operated at
high coagulation voltages!
3. Verify that the working channel of the endoscope is suitable for the selected probe (probe
diameters: 3.2 mm, 2.3 mm)!
4. Connect the 3-pin plug (5) to the Martin HF surgical unit.
5. Connect the selected probe to the connecting cable. Be sure that the connector (2) correct-
ly engages with the coupling (1). When the plug is fully inserted, it is normal that a small
gap (approx. 1 mm) will remain between the coupling and the plug.
6. Establish the gas connection to the Martin Argon Beamer by connecting the female Luer-
lock connector (31) of the connecting cable to the male Luer-lock gas outlet of the Beamer
(if preferred, you may insert a MABS sterile filter, item no. 80-181-90-04).
7. Activate the purge function of the Argon Beamer to flood the gas lumen of the connecting
cable and the probe with argon gas.
8. Operate the blue footswitch pedal to check the system for proper functioning (both the
Beamer and the generator must be activated).
The system is now ready for operation.
