Application instructions
MABS probes are usually operated with spray coagulation current, but the special argon
•
currents (Argon Beam, Argon Endo, Pulsed Argon slow or fast) as offered by the HF genera-
tor (maxium) can be used as well.
Always use the blue footswitch pedal for MABS probes!
To "ignite" the argon plasma, slowly approach the tissue with the distal opening of the
•
probe. At a distance of approx. 5 mm from the tissue surface, the plasma will be automati-
cally ignited. During the argon-supported coagulation (or "beaming") process, the distance
between the probe end and the tissue can be increased to approx. 2 to 2.5 cm before the
arc extinguishes.
Applications in flexible endoscopy and laparoscopy:
The endoscope's working channel should be at least 0.3 mm larger than the specified
probe diameter.
For flexible endoscopic applications, we recommend using flow rates of 0.3–0.8 l/min at a
spray output power of approx. 30 W.
This means for the various types of probe:

To ensure that a critical intra-abdominal pressure level is not exceeded, the trocar valve must
be open during laparoscopic argon applications! If an insufflator indicates pressure alarm, the
argon application must be suspended until the intra-abdominal pressure has dropped below
the critical level.
Irrespective of how the intra-abdominal pressure monitoring is realized with an insufflator,
independent and continuous intra-abdominal pressure monitoring by the surgical team is re-
quired as an additional safety measure. We recommend using a pressure relief-controlled
insufflator.
