Safety notes
G
WARNING
You must observe the maximum load of the roof box, the maximum
roof load and the permissible gross mass of your vehicle. Otherwise,
the roof box and/or the basic carrier or basic carrier for rails may
come loose from the vehicle, resulting in injury to you and other
persons and/or damage to property, including your vehicle.
G
WARNING
An incorrectly secured roof box or incorrectly secured cargo could
come loose from the vehicle and thereby cause an accident.
Observe the installation instructions and the specific operating
instructions when fitting. Always carefully secure the cargo.
Check that the anchorages of the roof box are secure before every
journey and at regular intervals throughout longer journeys.
G
WARNING
Using a roof box increases the surface area exposed to the wind,
which also raises the vehicle center of gravity, thus causing a change
in driving characteristics. For example, the additional weight on the
roof of the vehicle may impair braking effect, cornering ability and the
acceleration characteristics of the vehicle.
Therefore, do not exceed a maximum speed of 81 mph (130 km/h)
even with an unladen roof box installed and always take extra
precautions.
Note
An installed roof box may restrict the opening of the tilting/sliding
sunroof. Therefore, do not open the tilting/sliding sunroof when the roof
box is installed.
When add-on carrying equipment is installed and cargo is being
transported, make sure that the tailgate can be opened entirely.
Take note of how the vehicle dimensions change once the roof box is
mounted and the resulting change to the clearance height.
Do not enter an automatic car wash with the roof box installed.
Always keep the roof box locked and remove the key when driving.
Do not transport people, animals, dangerous goods or similar items in the
roof box.
Store the replacement key in a safe place. If you lose a key, a
replacement key can be ordered at a Mercedes-Benz Center.
The key number is stamped on the key. Please enter this number here in
case you wish to make a repeat order in the future.
Read and comply with the information labels on the inside of the roof box.
The roof box is splash-resistant. Mercedes-Benz recommends placing
loads that are sensitive to water in additional packaging.
For safety reasons, and in order to save fuel, roof boxes should be
removed from the vehicle when not in use.
Notes on care
To clean the roof box, Mercedes-Benz recommends using the plastic
cleaning and care emulsion available at any Mercedes-Benz Center or
water mixed with commercially available car shampoo. Do not use
cleaning agents containing solvents.
Spray the locks at regular intervals with a multipurpose spray lubricant.
Storage
Do not store the roof box in an upright position; lay the roof box on a
clean surface.
