Safety notes
G
WARNING
You must observe the maximum load of the roof box, the maximum
roof load and the gross vehicle weight rating of your vehicle.
Otherwise, the roof box and/or the basic carrier bars or basic carrier
bars for rails may come loose from the vehicle, resulting in injury to
you and other persons and/or damage to property, including your
vehicle.
G
WARNING
An incorrectly secured roof box or an incorrectly secured load could
come loose from the vehicle and thereby cause an accident.
Observe the installation instructions and the specific operating
instructions when fitting. Always carefully secure the load.
Check that the roof box fastening fixtures are secure before each trip
and at regular intervals during longer trips.
G
WARNING
Using a roof box increases the surface area exposed to the wind and
also raises the vehicle's centre of gravity, thus causing a change in
driving characteristics. For example, the additional weight on the roof
of the vehicle may impair braking performance, cornering ability and
the acceleration characteristics of the vehicle.
Therefore, do not exceed a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h) even
with an unladen roof box installed and always take extra precautions.
Note
Opening the tiling/sliding sunroof may be restricted when the roof box is
fitted. Therefore, do not open the tilting/sliding sunroof when the roof
box is fitted.
When add-on carrying equipment and goods are mounted, make sure
that the tailgate can be opened fully.
Take note of how the vehicle dimensions change once the roof box is
fitted, including the altered headroom.
Do not enter an automatic car wash with the roof box fitted.
Always keep the roof box locked and remove the key when driving.
Do not transport people, animals, dangerous goods or similar items in the
roof box.
Store the second key in a safe place. If you lose a key, a replacement key
can be ordered at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
The key number is stamped on the key. Please enter this number here in
case you ever need to order a replacement.
Read and comply with the instruction labels on the inside of the roof box.
The roof box is splash-resistant. Mercedes-Benz recommends placing
loads that are sensitive to water in additional packaging.
For safety reasons, and in order to save fuel, roof boxes should be
removed from the vehicle when not in use.
Notes on care
To clean the roof box, Mercedes-Benz recommends using the plastic
cleaning and care emulsion available at any Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre or water mixed with commercially available car shampoo. Do not
use cleaning agents containing solvents.
Spray the locks at regular intervals with a multi-purpose spray lubricant.
Storage
Do not store the roof box upright, but place it on a clean surface.
