Do not placeinto your dryer itemsthathavebeen
spottedor soaked with vegetable oil or cooking
oil. Evenafter being washed,theseitems may
contain significant amountsof theseoils. The
remaining oil can ignite spontaneously.The
potential for spontaneousignition increases
when the items containing vegetableoil or
cooking oil areexposedto heat. Heat sources,
such as your clothesdryer, can warm these
items,allowing an oxidationreactionin the oil
to occur. Oxidation createsheat. If this heat
cannot escape, the items can become hot
enoughto catchfire. Piling, stackingor storing
these kinds of items may prevent heat from
escapingand cancreatea fire hazard.
All washed and unwashed fabrics that contain
vegetableoil or cooking oil canbe dangerous.
Washingtheseitems in hot water with extra
detergentwill reduce,but will not eliminate,
the hazard.Always usethe "cool down" cycle
for theseitems to reduce tile items' tempera-
ture. Never remove these items from the
clothesdryer hot or interrupt the drying cycle
until the items have run through the "cool
down" cycle.Never pile or stacktheseitems
when they arehot.
