3 Installation recommendations
3 .1 General
See the wiring diagram on page 26 for an explanation of the fol-
lowing paragraphs.
3 .2 Positioning
Position the rudder feedback unit so that the direction of rotation of
the rudder shaft corresponds to the direction of rotation of the rud-
der feedback unit axis.
3 .3 Mounting
Never install the rudder feedback unit outside!
• Install the rudder feedback unit so that the tiller arm follows the
tiller closely.
• Assemble the rudder feedback unit so that the unit-arm and tiller
move in one plane.
• Make sure the connecting rod can move freely at each rudder
turn.
3 .4 Connections
Always be alert and careful when working on the electrical
installation!
• Connect the power supply, rudder feedback unit and the LED of
the readout instrument as shown on page 26.
• Install the cable, or cables, from the rudder positioner to each in-
strument.
Incorrect connections can damage the connected
instrument!

3 .5 Setting the rudder feedback unit and readout
instrument
• Switch on the power supply.
• Turn the ship's rudder so that the needle of the readout instru-
ment moves anti-clockwise (to the right). Turn the ship's rudder to
its outermost position.
• Press the (A) button on the
back of the readout instru-
ment for 3 seconds. The
LED on the dial starts flash-
ing.
The instrument is now in
calibration mode.
• Now turn the ship's rudder to the centre position.
• Briefly press the (A) key to confirm. The maximum rudder turn and
centre position are now stored.
Move the rudder and check that the instrument's rudder
position indication is correct .
3 .6 Resetting the settings
• Switch on the power supply for both the rudder feedback unit and
the readout instrument.
• Carefully loosen the connection to S1.
• Press the (A) button for 3 seconds. When the light on the back of
the readout instrument flashes, release the button.
• Wait 2 seconds. Briefly press the (A) key.
• Switch off the power supply for both the rudder feedback unit
and the readout instrument and then switch it back on.
• Follow the instructions in section 3.5 to reset the rudder feedback
unit and the readout instrument.
