RECOMMENDATION FOR ENGINE USE AND OPERATION
The engine has been designed and manufactured to meet all the operating conditions
indicated by the manufacturer.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
During use, it is necessary to comply with
the following instructions:
1 - Carry out the engine maintenance as
defined by the manufacturer.
2 - Avoid using the engine at its maximum
performance or with no load for long
periods during running-in.
3 - If the engine is used occasionally, it is
recommended to start the engine at least
once a month, running it for about 5 (five)
minutes at an operating temperature of
70C°- 80°C (158°F - 176°F).
When turning off the engine, disconnect
the ignition key and wait at least 6 minutes
before disconnecting the negative battery
cable or battery-main-switch in vehicles
where this function is provided.
4 - Do not use the engine at maximum
performance before it has reached the
operating temperature of 70°C - 80 °C
(158°F - 176°F).
5 - When starting the engine for the first
time, run it at no-load and minimum speed
for a few minutes and make sure that the
oil pressure value is within the range in
the table (see "Technical data - Lubrication
circuit" on page 15). If values other than
those in the table are found, contact the
manufacturer of the vehicle in which
the engine is installed or a workshop
authorised by VM MOTORI STELLANTIS
EUROPE.
6 - In case of use with low ambient
temperature, proceed as follow:
- preheat the engine adequately.
- with ambient temperature lower
than -10°C (14°F), contact the vehicle
manufacturer for installation of devices
that facilitate engine start and correct
operation.

ENGINE USE INFORMATION
7 - Use oil compliant with the specifications
indicated in technical data - Lubrification
circuit on page 15.
8 - Before reusing the engine after
work, remove and thoroughly clean any
foreign material deposits on the engine
components or in the engine compartment
and on the vehicle parts where the engine
is fitted, to avoid malfunctions, damages
and related risks (e.g. fire).
9 - Do not overload the engine.
10 - When an alarm signal (visual and/
or acoustic) coming from the instrument
panel of the vehicle in which the engine
is installed is triggered, this indicates the
presence of an anomaly.
In the presence of anomalies, the
electronic engine management system
activates protective strategies and, if
necessary, also the limitation of engine
performance.
- Do not attempt to disconnect the MIL light
operating sensor and/or the DWS light
operating sensors to clear the signal.
- In case of anomaly signalled a by
warning light, contact the manufacturer of
the vehicle in which the engine is installed
or a workshop authorised by VM MOTORI
STELLANTIS EUROPE.
