Soxtec™ 2050 Automatic System
6 Maintenance
Note: The equipment must not be used if the maintenance in-
structions below are not followed.
6.1 Daily
Check the glass cups for cracks, especially on the surface which faces the seal. Check
the seals and replace them if they are cracked or defective in any way. Check the sur-
face of the hot plate and remove any residues carefully to avoid bad heat transfer.
6.2 Weekly
Wipe the instrument clean with a damp cloth. It is important that the cloth is damp to
avoid buildup of static electricity. The hot plate may be cleaned with an abrasive
cloth (e.g. Scotch Brite) to remove any residues of dirt and to improve heat transfer.
6.3 Monthly/Yearly
Check the coolers for algae growth. If necessary clean with 1 M HCl or Hypochlorite
solution.
Fill the cooling system with 1 M HCl. Let the solution remain in the coolers over-
night. Flush with water. Repeat if necessary.
Start the air pump and check the air flow in each condenser holder (teflon part).
If the insides of the condensers are contaminated, it is normally sufficient to make
one or two blank runs without samples. Take a small amount of solvent in each cup
and run a short extraction cycle. Repeat several times if necessary. If the condensers
are heavily contaminated, contact service personnel or follow the service instructions
for changing condensers and soak the condensers in laboratory glassware detergent
overnight.
Change seals 1-2 times per year.
Note: Remove the cover and check for leaking tubings and glass
details twice a year.
Note: Service must be done once a year by an authorized service
engineer.
Note: Calibration of the instrument is not allowed. If necessary
contact FOSS Analytical AB service department.
Warning
When cleaning the instrument, especially the glass parts, always
use a damp cloth to avoid static electricity.
6.4 Checking the Over-temperature
We recommend these controls to be performed four times a year.
Note: The overtemperature control must be done by a responsi-
ble body or an authorized service technician.
