1.2 Safety Precautions
Please read these operating instructions carefully and act accordingly.
For safety reasons people not familiar with these operating instructions must not use
the instrument.
Warning
In order to find out the nature of the potential hazard, please
consult this manual in all cases where this symbol is used.
Warning
When handling flammable solvents eliminate all sources of igni-
tion. Discharge of accumulated static electricity can generate
sparks which will ignite flammable vapours. Laboratory coats
and clothing made of certain synthetic fibres are prone to gener-
ate static electricity and should be avoided. Non-polar materials
such as hydrocarbon solvents accumulate static charges readily,
as they have high insulating values and do not allow the charge
to leak away. The distance between the opening of the Teflon
tube used to empty the collection vessel (maximum length 500
mm, I.D. 8 mm) and the flask in which the solvent is collected
should therefore be as short as possible. The preferred technique
is to lower the tube close to the bottom of the flask and into the
solvent to equalize charges. Avoid free falling solvent, as this
may be dangerous.
Warning
Careful handling of the solutions used in an analysis is mandato-
ry for laboratory safety. Refer to the appropriate material safety
data sheet for reagent handling instructions. Wear eye protec-
tion at all times and handle hot cups with care.
Electrical Shock Hazard
This device is equipped with a grounding/earthing type power
plug for your protection against electric shock hazard and should
only be plugged into a properly grounded/earthed socket.
