5.5 Thermal protection
The equipment is equipped with thermal protectors inside the stator windings to shut down the power supply in case of motor overheating.
The standard thermal protection consists of bimetal thermal protectors with nominal switching temperature NST=150°C; as option, bimetallic
protectors can be replaced by PTC thermistors or PT100 sensors.
The thermal protection cables are marked with a label stating "TP" = THERMAL PROTECTION and must be connected to the corresponding
terminals of the control panel.
-Ex models in DRY version are equipped with a bimetallic thermal protector with a nominal
switching temperature NST=120°C inside the lower bearing support to shut down the power
supply and prevent the surface overheating in case of malfunction in the cooling system.
The thermal protector in the lower bearing support and those in the winding stator are con-
nected in series.
On customer request, A PTC thermistor or PT100 sensor could be installed as alternative and/
or with independent terminals.
For non-standard electrical configurations, please refers to the specific documentation sup-
plied with the unit.
It is mandatory that the user connect thermal protectors with a tripping unit in the control panel
set in a way to avoid the automatic restart of the equipment. The pump must be exclusively

restarted manually by a technician after having fixed the causes of the anomaly.
5.6 Leakage detector
The standard pump is equipped with a single-signal dual probe that can
detect the presence of water or humidity in the oil chamber of the mecha-
nical seals and in the motor.
The leakage detector is of single electrode type and uses the ground
conductor to close the circuit; the circuit must be supplied with power by
means of an insulating transformer.
On standard models, the cable is marked with a label with the letter "S"
(fig. 15) and must be connected to the corresponding terminal of the
control panel.
On request, the pump can be equipped with single probes for the detec-
tion of water or humidity inside the oil chamber of the mechanical seals
(S1), the motor compartment (S2) and the terminal board compartment
(S3) (fig. 16).

In the event of a warning (electrical resistance in the water/oil mixture less than 30 kΩ), take the pump out of service and carry
out maintenance.
Apart from leading to forfeiture of warranty coverage, failure to connect the leakage detector may constitute a hazard.
For installations with -Ex certified models, the connection to the electric control panel must be carried out by inserting in safe
area an Intrinsic Safety barrier with galvanic isolation. Local regulations/standards must be observed.

5.7 Electrical connection
To set up the electrical connection of the electric pump, do the following:
1. Check which type of electrical connection is required on the identification plate (direct starting or Y/D).
2. Firstly, connect the earth wire to the relative terminal in the electrical panel, according to the connection diagram.
3. Connect the power wires to the relative terminals in the electrical panel, according to the connection diagram.
4. Connect the wires of the control devices to the terminals on the relative panel.
