Horizontal and vertical beam locks
These two locks, as the name suggests, are used to secure the beam in either the horizontal or vertical
position. The vertical lock is located next to the oil filter. The horizontal beam lock is located on the beam
support latch clamp.
Recommendations for use
a. Place the log on the end plate and rotate it until it rests on the beam and is stable.
b. When splitting extra large or uneven logs, the log should be stabilised with wooden wedges or split
timber between the log and the end plate or the floor.
Filling petrol and oil
- Service the engine with petrol and oil as described in the engine manual supplied with the machine.
Read the instructions carefully.
WARNING: Use extreme caution when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and its
vapors are explosive. Never charge the machine indoors or when the engine is hot or running.
NOTICE: This unit is shipped without gasoline or oil in the engine. Be sure to fill the engine with
gasoline and oil as indicated in the enclosed engine manual before operating the machine.
NOTE: Fuel can be added to the engine when the log chipper is in either the horizontal or vertical
position. However, there is less clogging when the unit is in the vertical position.
Before each use
- Remove the dipstick and check the hydraulic fluid level. Top up if necessary.
- Check engine oil level. Top up if necessary.
- Top up petrol if necessary.
- Lubricate the area of the beam where the splitting wedge will slide with engine oil. Do not use grease for
lubrication. Be sure to lubricate both the front and rear of the beam face.
- Connect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
