5. MAINTENANCE
Regular maintenance is the way to ensure the best performance and long life of your machine. Refer to
this manual and the engine manufacturer's owner's manual for maintenance procedures.
WARNING: Before performing any maintenance or inspection procedure, stop the engine, wait five
minutes to allow all parts to cool. Disconnect the spark plug wire, keeping it away from the spark plug.
Disconnect the battery terminals (electric start only).
WARNING:
1. Stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug and ground it against the engine before cleaning, or
inspecting the machine.
2. Stop the engine and release the pressure in the hydraulic system before repairing or adjusting fittings,
hoses, lines, or other system components.
3. To prevent fires, clear debris and chaff from the engine and muffler areas. If the engine is equipped
with a spark arresting muffler, clean and inspect it regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Replace it if damaged.
4. Periodically check that all nuts and bolts, hose clamps and hydraulic fittings are tight to ensure that the
equipment is in safe working condition.
5. Check that all safety guards are in the correct position. Never operate with safety guards, shields or
other protective items removed.
6. The pressure relief valve is preset at the factory. Do not adjust the valve.
7. Never attempt to move this machine over rough or uneven terrain without a towing vehicle or
adequate assistance.
8. For your safety, replace all damaged or worn parts immediately with original equipment
manufacturer's (O.E.M.) parts only. "The use of parts that do not meet O.E.M. specifications may result in
improper performance and compromise safety.
9. Do not alter this machine in any way, alterations such as connecting a rope or extension to the control
lever, or adding to the width or height of the wedge may result in personal injury.
Hydraulic fluid
- Check the hydraulic fluid level in the log splitter reservoir before each use.
- Maintain the fluid level within the range specified on the dipstick at all times.
- Change the hydraulic fluid in the reservoir every 100 hours of operation.
- Disconnect the suction hose from the bottom of the reservoir and drain the fluid into a suitable
container. Refill using only 10W AW hydraulic fluid.
- As contaminants in the fluid can damage hydraulic components, the fluid should be drained and
the reservoir and hoses flushed with paraffin whenever any repair work is carried out on the reservoir,
hydraulic pump or valve. For this work, contact your nearest service dealer.
NOTE: Dispose of used hydraulic fluid and engine oil only at authorised recycling centres.
