f. Be aware of paint finishes or treatments that may have been applied to the material that
is being sanded. Many treatments can create dust that is toxic, or otherwise harmful. If
working on a building constructed prior to 1960, there is an increased chance of encountering
lead-based paints.
g. The dust produced when sanding lead-based paints is particularly hazardous to children,
pregnant women, and people with high blood pressure. DO NOT allow these people near to
the work area, even if wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
h. Whenever possible, use a vacuum dust extraction system to control dust and waste.
i. Be especially careful when using a machine for both wood and metal sanding. Sparks
from metal can easily ignite wood dust. ALWAYS clean your machine thoroughly to reduce the
risk of fire.
j. Empty the dust bag or container (where applicable) frequently during use, before taking
breaks and after completion of sanding. Dust may be an explosion hazard. DO NOT throw
sanding dust into an open fire. Spontaneous combustion may occur when oil or water particles
come into contact with dust particles. Dispose of waste materials carefully and in accordance with
local laws and regulations.
k. Work surfaces and sandpaper can become very hot during use. If there is evidence of
burning (smoke or ash), from the work surface, stop and allow the material to cool. DO
NOT touch work surface or sandpaper until they have had time to cool.
l. DO NOT touch the moving sandpaper.
m. ALWAYS switch off before you put the sander down.
n. DO NOT use for wet sanding. Liquids entering the motor housing can cause severe electric
shocks.
o. ALWAYS unplug the sander from the mains power supply before changing or replacing
sandpaper.
p. Even when this tool is used as prescribed it is not possible to eliminate all residual risk
factors. If you are in any doubt as to safe use of this tool, do not use it.
WARNING: Dust generated by using power tools can be toxic. Some materials may be
chemically treated or coated and be a toxic hazard. Some natural and composite materials may
contain toxic chemicals. Some older paints may contain lead and other chemicals. Avoid prolonged
exposure to dust generated from operating a sander. DO NOT allow dust to get onto skin or eyes
and do not allow the dust to enter your mouth to prevent absorption of harmful chemicals. Where
possible, work in a well-ventilated area. Use a suitable dust mask and dust extraction system where
possible. Where there is a higher frequency of exposure, it is more critical that all safety precautions
are followed and a higher level of personal protection is used.

Before Use
WARNING: Ensure the tool is disconnected from the power supply before attaching or changing
any accessories or making any adjustments.
Fitting sanding sheets
Note: DO NOT continue to use worn, torn, or heavily clogged Sanding Sheets. Ensure foreign
objects, such as nails and screws, are removed from the workpiece before commencing sanding.
WARNING: DO NOT use a Sanding Sheet on wood that has previously been used on metal.
This may cause scouring on the wooden surface. DO NOT use this sander for sanding magnesium,
or for wet sanding.
Selecting the right grade of sanding sheet
Note: Always use good quality Sanding Sheets to maximise the quality of the finished task. Always
test the sander on a scrap piece of material to determine whether the Sanding Sheet is suitable for
the intended task:
• Coarse (60 grit) for use on rough material
• Medium (120 grit) for smoothing off
• Fine (240 grit) for finishing
Note: DO NOT use Sanding Sheets designed for wet sanding.
Fitting sheets with pre-punched holes
1. After selecting the right grade of compatible Sanding Sheet (8) attach the sheet to the Sanding
Base Plate (4) using the hook and loop attachment method.
2. Ensure that the holes on the Base Plate align with that of the Sanding Sheet to allow the dust
extraction system to work (Fig. I).
Fitting sheets without pre-punched holes
Note: If you are using Sanding Sheets with no punched holes, the dust extraction system of this
sander WILL NOT FUNCTION. Use a suitable tool to manually punch holes through the Sanding
Sheet, exactly where the dust extraction holes in the base of the sander are located. Take care not to
damage the surface of the base.
1. Attach the Sanding Sheet to the sander using the same method as described for Sheets with
pre-punched holes.
2. Press a punch plate against the underside of the Sanding Base Plate (4), the raised points will
punch the required holes in the paper.
Dust extraction
IMPORTANT: It is essential to take proper measures to prevent dust entering the motor and other
internal mechanisms of this tool. Failure to do so may seriously reduce the life and performance of
this sander. This can be done by connecting a suitable dust extraction system.
Connecting a dust extraction system
1. Connect the sander to a vacuum cleaner, or dust extraction system, via the Dust Outlet (3) using
the Dust Extraction Adaptor (7).
2. The Dust Extraction Adaptor can be used to attach different extraction systems.
Note: An adaptor may be required to connect certain dust extraction or vacuum systems.
3. Attach the Dust Extraction Adaptor by pushing it onto the Dust Outlet and rotating clockwise to
engage the locking lugs (Fig. II).
4. Switch the vacuum cleaner or dust extraction system on before you begin sanding.
• This will significantly reduce the dust in the air around the work area.
Operation
WARNING: ALWAYS wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection
when working with this tool.
WARNING: This sander is NOT suitable for wet sanding.
WARNING: When sanding metal, ensure your dust extraction system is suitable and free of any
remaining wood dust. Hot metal particles and sparks could ignite residual wood dust and cause the
dust extraction system to catch fire. Always clean tools THOROUGHLY when switching from sanding
wood to sanding metal, and vice versa.
WARNING: Always connect the sander to a suitable vacuum cleaner or workshop dust extraction
system if the sanding dust contains harmful substances, such as particles from old paint, varnish,
surface coatings etc. Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and regulations.
WARNING: Always connect the sander to a suitable vacuum cleaner or workshop dust extraction
system if the sanding dust contains harmful substances, such as particles from old paint, varnish,
surface coatings etc. Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and regulations.
WARNING: Take special care to guard against harmful and toxic dusts when sanding lead-based
painted surfaces, woods and metals, particularly if you are unsure about the exact substances
involved. All persons entering the work area must wear a mask specially designed for protection
against the toxic dust and fumes involved. Children and pregnant women MUST NOT enter the work
area. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke in the work area.
