11. Synchronization
Plug the sync cable into terminal (24) at the bottom
of the unit and connect it to the camera. Further flash
units are triggered via the slave cell (3) which also
serves as an infrared sensor. It can be switched
on or off with button (12).
Slave cell ON: LED above button (12) lights up green.
Switch (13) serves to reduce the sensitivity of the
photocell.
Switch (13) depressed, LED lights green = reduced
sensitivity.
This setting is useful, for example, near flickering
fluorescent tubes that might fire the flash units
uncontrollably.
Switch (13) released, LED NOT lit = high sensitivity
of photocell.
XENOLUX units come with a small white cap that
can be slipped onto the photocell if necessary to
shield the cell completely from external light.
12. Changing reflectors
All reflectors are attached by means of a standard
bayonet mount. They are secured in the mount by
slider (20).
Slider set to A = mount open.
Slider set to B = mount locked
Set slider (20) to A, insert the reflector in the mount
and lock it by clockwise rotation. To remove, proceed
in the reverse order. Attach umbrella reflectors only
in conjunction with a STUSCH (29) reflector which
includes the required holder.
13. Changing the flash and halogen tubes
XENOLUX 250, 500
Switch the unit off and disconnect it from the power
supply. Remove the reflector or other accessories.
To remove the bayonet-mount halogen tube (18),
slightly press it down and turn it through 90° without
releasing it. Take it out. Do not touch the bulb of the
new tube with your bare fingers when inserting it.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions in the box.
Carefully pull out flash tube (17) towards the front
and replace by a new one. Always grasp the flash
tube only by its ceramic base and press down as far
as it will go.
XENOLUX 1000, 1500
Switch the unit off and disconnect it from the power
supply. Remove Pyrex globe (19) . To do this, press
the longer one of the three spring clips outwards at
point (23) and carefully lift the globe away laterally.
Pull halogen tube (18) out towards the front. Insert
new tube without touching its bulb with your fingers.
Follow manufacturer's instructions coming with the
tube. Replace the Pyrex globe. Should the new ha-
logen tube fail to light, check fuse (28) at the
underside of the unit and replace by an identical one,
if necessary.
Carefully withdraw flash tube (17) to the front and
replace it by a new one. Always grasp the tube at its
ceramic base and press down as far as it will go.
For types of halogen and flash tubes, see
Specifications.
14. Fuses
To change the fuses, open the fuse holder (27/28)
with the aid of a coin. Replace blown fuses by new
ones of the identical rating (see Table). All units come
with a set of spare fuses.
XENOLUX 250 and 500 have a master fuse (27).
XENOLUX 1000 and 1500 have a master fuse (27)
plus a fuse (28) for their 650w halogen modeling light.

15. Thermal safety
The units are protected by a thermal circuit breaker.
This may cut off the power supply in the event of
high ambient temperature or prolonged, heavy-duty
operation. Should this occur, the unit cannot be fired
any more, the display (2) blinks, and the modeling
light goes out. The power supply will be automatically
restored the moment the unit has cooled down. In
normal operation, the integral cooling fan is sufficient
to prevent overheating.
16. Maintenance
Equipment used daily should be checked about once
a year by an authorized Multiblitz Service Center.
Never expose the flash unit to splashing or dripping
water.
Before shipping the equipment, be sure to remove
the flash and halogen tubes, packing them
separately.
17. Protective glass globes
XENOLUX 250, 500
The halogen tubes of these types of XENOLUX units
conform to the latest safety standards (IEC 598, IEC
432-2) with integral fuse and DO NOT require any
protective glass globe. However, should this be
desired, it may be ordered as an optional accessory.
To mount it, use the screws to secure the three spring
clips supplied at points (23). The globe comes with
separate instructions for mounting.
XENOLUX 1000, 1500
These units come with a Pyrex globe (19).
