14. Fault finding chart

Warning
Before starting work on the pump, make sure that the power supply to the pump has been
switched off and that it cannot be accidentally switched on.
Fault
1. The pump does
not run.
2. The pump stops
after short time of
operation
(thermal switch
tripped out).
3. The pump runs
but gives
insufficient water.
4. The pump runs
but gives no
water.
5. The pump leaks
at the handle
(no fault).

15. Disposal

This product or parts of it must be disposed of in an
environmentally sound way:
1. Use the public or private waste collection service.
2. If this is not possible, contact the nearest
Grundfos company or service workshop.
Cause
a) Power supply switched off.
b) Fuses in installation blown.
c) The pump thermal switch has tripped
out. See section 8. Motor protection.
(See also point 2.)
a) The pumped liquid temperature is
higher than that stated in section 6.
The motor is overheated.
b) Pump partly or completely blocked by
impurities.
c) Water level too low when the pump is
started. The pump cannot self-prime,
see sections 10.2 and 10.4.
a) Pump partly blocked by impurities.
b) Discharge pipe/hose partly blocked by
impurities. The hose may be sharply
bent.
c) Impeller, pump housing or diaphragm
defective.
a) Pump blocked by impurities.
b) Non-return valve in discharge pipe/
hose blocked in closed position or
blocked by impurities. The hose may
be sharply bent.
c) Pumps with float switch: The pump
does not stop because the free cable
length of the float switch is too long.
a) Pump sucks air or water with a high air
content. See section 10.1.
Remedy
Switch on the power supply.
Replace defective fuses.
The thermal switch will restart the pump
when the motor has cooled to normal
temperature.
The pump will start automatically after
sufficient cooling.
Clean the pump, see section 11.1.
Move the pump to a position with higher
water level or add water until the pump
starts sucking.
Clean the pump, see section 11.1.
Check and clean the pipe/hose and non-
return valve, if fitted.
Replace defective parts, see section 12.
Clean the pump, see section 11.1.
Check the non-return valve. Clean or
replace the valve, if necessary.
Reduce the free cable length,
see section 9.4.
The pump is not damaged. Move the
pump to a position with higher water level.
