note 11a and 11b below). After the last measurement, the
BP can be entered into the device.
11. The SI values for the three tests should be examined. All the
values should be within 10-15% of each other. If one is
clearly an 'outlier', it should be discarded. If all the SI values
are variable >15%, consider the following:
a)
Repeat the three measurements. If the measurements
continue to be variable, check the wave shape and the
heart rate. If the wave shape and/or the heart rate are
variable, store the measurements and ask the subject to
come back another day to repeat the measurement. All
the data should be stored and the subject noted for later
investigation.
b)
If the subject has an arrhythmia the unit may return an
'error' message, saying that 'not enough pulses have
been identified'. The user must enter the PulseTrace
'set-up' menu, and increase the factory default recording
time from 10 seconds to 20 seconds. If a result still
cannot be obtained, the measurement will have to be
abandoned. The user must remember to return the
recording time back to the default setting of 10 seconds
ready for the next subject.

Endothelial function assessment protocol

Vasoactive substance (alcohol, vasodilator drugs) affecting vascular
tone will modify the shape of the DVP as does exercise. This effect
can be used to assess endothelial function.
GTN is a non-endothelium-dependent vasodilator. It reduces the
reflection index 'RI' and this reduction is independent on endothelial
function.
