MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION
Caution:Only administer medication after confirmation of proper feeding tube
placement and patency. Administration of medication should be performed according
to instructions provided by physician.
Caution:Use medication in liquid form whenever possible. If only solid medication is
available, seek advice from a physician to determine if it is safe to crush solid
medication and mix with water.
Warning:Do not crush medication that has an enteric coating or attempt to mix
medication with feeding formula.
Warning: This device is intended FOR ENTERAL USE ONLY. Do NOT attempt to
connect with the devices mentioned in the main "WARNING" section. Device
funnel is printed "FEED ONLY" and "ENTERAL MEDS ONLY" to further clarify that
this device is intended for enteral applications only.
1. Before administering medication, flush feeding tube with prescribed amount of
water using a catheter tip syringe.
2. Remove plug from the medication port adaptor.
3. Medication may be administered through the medication port or through the
medication port adaptor using the appropriate syringe.
Note:If safe, solid medication may be pulverized into a fine powder and
dissolved with water before being administered.
4. After medication administration is complete, flush the route used for medication
with prescribed amount of water.
TUBE REMOVAL
Caution:Never attempt to remove feeding tube unless trained by physician or
healthcare provider. Before removing feeding tube, verify that the feeding tube may be
replaced at bedside.
1. Obtain equipment and supplies required for removal of device. Clean hands and
use powder-free gloves before touching stoma site.
2. Gently rotate the feeding tube to ensure the tube moves freely and easily.
Warning:Do not apply excessive force when removing device. If resistance is
felt, apply water soluble lubricant and manipulate tube by pushing and rotating
until tube moves freely and easily. Contact physician if not able to remove
feeding tube.
3. Remove any contents inside the balloon using a syringe.
4. Pull device out of stoma while simultaneously applying counter-pressure to the
patient's abdomen.
5. Clean stoma site with mild soap and water. Allow area to dry.
6. Dispose of device following the guidelines for biohazardous waste provided by the
healthcare institution.
7. If a replacement device is required, follow instructions provided in "DEVICE
REPLACEMENT" instructions below.
Caution:Stoma tract may begin to close in the first hour following device
removal.
DEVICE REPLACEMENT
1. Clean stoma site with mild soap and water. Allow area to dry.
2. Select the appropriate size for replacement device, inspect device prior to use
and determine if water-soluble lubrication is needed following the instructions
provided in the "DEVICE PREPARATION" section listed above.
3. Carefully insert device through the established stoma and into the stomach
lumen.
Note:Maintain insertion angle perpendicular to the surface of the skin.
4. Verify that device is inside the stomach lumen using fluoroscopic procedures to
determine position of device using the radiopaque mark located on the tip of the
device or by following the instructions provided in the "VERIFICATION OF
TUBE PLACEMENT" section listed above.
5. Inflate the balloon to recommended fill volume (printed on the device) with
sterile or distilled water using a sterile syringe.
Caution:Only use sterile or distilled water for balloon inflation. Do not use air,
saline, feeding formula, medication, or radiopaque contrast for balloon
inflation.
6. Gently pull device toward abdomen until balloon is up against the inner stomach
wall.
7. Slide the external bolster down to the skin.
8. Verify that there is no leakage of gastric contents around the stoma site and that
there is not excessive pressure between the balloon and external bolster.
Warning:Inflating balloon with less volume than the recommended volume
may result in leakage of gastric contents and/or device migration. Inflating
balloon with more volume than the recommended volume may decrease
balloon performance.
9. Clean any remaining contents around the stoma site with mild soap and water.
