Dear client,
EN
Please read these instructions for use carefully. If you have any questions, please contact our customer service department.
MOS Genu® is a therapeutic devise designed to aid your treatment. It helps to protect the knee during therapy and assists muscle
development during physical therapy exercises.
Indications
Non-surgical
• Cruciate and lateral ligament injuries
• Complex instabilities including genu recurvatum
• Support for the affected compartment in bowleg/knock-knee arthritis
Post-op. (short MOS Genu)
• Operations on the ligaments, i.e. arti cial ligaments
• Meniscal suturing and meniscal replacement (meniscal implantation)
Post-op. (long MOS Genu)
• After axial correction of the shinbone (tibial osteotomy)
• After complex reconstructions of the ligaments
• In individual cases it is also indicated for fractures located close to joints
Side effects
Side effects involving the body as a whole have not been reported to date. Correct tting is assumed. Any supports and orthoses
applied externally to the body can, if tightened excessively, lead to local pressure signs or, rarely, constrict the underlying blood
vessels or nerves.
Contraindications
Hypersensitive reactions harmful to health have not been reported to date. In the following conditions such aids should only be
tted and worn after consultation with your doctor:
1. Skin disorders/injuries in the relevant part of the body, particularly if in ammation is present. Likewise, any raised scans with
swelling, redness and excessive heat build-up.
2. Varicose veins.
3. Impaired sensation and circulatory disorders of the legs, e.g. diabetes mellitus.
4. Impaired lymph drainage – including soft tissue swellings of uncertain origin located remotely from the tted aid.
Determining the Size
Please determine the correct size according to the details given on the back of the packaging.
Procedure for First Time Application
1. Preparation
• Loosen the 4 adjustment cams above and below the knee ring.
• Mark the theoretical anatomical knee joint centre at 30° exion.
• Please choose the size of the knee joint padding for the individual. MOS Genu comes ready- tted with post-op pads on the inner
side of the joint for post-operative use.
2. Static tting
IMPORTANT!
The shell sections and the straps must lie at on the skin. Do not use sharp-edged tools to contour the orthosis. Most
6
adjustments can be performed manually.
Orthosis =orthopaedic appliance used to stabilize, relieve, immobilize, control or correct the limbs or the torso
1
• The initial tting is carried out without the knee pads.
• The MOS Genu is placed against the knee joint in 30 degree exion such that the mechanical pivot point of the MOS Genu
corresponds with Nietert's compromise axis.
• Check that the support shells lie at against the knee both vertically and circumferentially; adjust if necessary.
• A round adjusting hook with safety cap should be used for major adjustments.
• Select the knee pads of the required thickness, fasten and turn the Velcro-backed pads until at contact with the knee is
achieved. The post-op pads must be removed before the knee padding is attached using the Velcro straps.
• Centre the distal (lower) popliteal fossa strap with the integrated knee pad, tighten and secure on both sides.
• Take the proximal (upper) popliteal fossa strap and proceed as for the distal strap.
• Now attach, centre and secure the two broader distal and proximal (bottom and top) straps and, on the long version, the straps
of the extension shells.
• The brace is held in the individual bowleg/knock-knee position whilst the straps are attached. The adjusting cams should now
be screwed tight to maintain this position. Important! Do not attempt to move adjusting cams once tightened, otherwise the
material will be stressed.
• On the long version, the height of the distal (lower) and proximal (upper) extension shells can be adjusted to the full extent of
the lever arm.
• If necessary, the protective shinbone padding, also supplied, can be af xed in order to relieve pressure pain in the shinbone
area - or if swelling is present in the area of the tibial tubercle.
3. Adjustment examples
• Two stop pins can be set to limit joint exion and extension.
• The extent of permitted movement can be read off, in degrees, in the window on the outer aspect of the knee.
• Flexion/extension can be restricted by placing the stop pins at the appropriate positions.
1
• Angles of 0°, 20°, 40°, 60° etc. can be set with the stop pin in the long slot and angles of 10°, 30°, 50° etc. with the stop pin in
the short slot.
• The orthosis is shipped with a 0°/0°/90° exion/extension initial setting.

4. Dynamic tting
• Check the effect of MOS Genu on the patient ‚s movement.
• For gait anomalies, loosen the adjustment cams and in 20 steps let the orthosis run in, then retighten adjustment cams.
Important! Do not attempt to move adjusting cams once tightened, otherwise the material will be stressed.
• Repeat this procedure until the desired gait is reached.
• TORX screws have been used exclusively on the MOS Genu. A matching screwdriver is also supplied. TORX screws allow for high
tightening torques as it is virtually impossible for the screwdriver to slip out of the TORX drive.
5. Bowleg/knock-knee settings
• The graduated adjusting cams allow the brace to be placed in the precise bowleg/knock-knee position of the leg.
• Loosen the cam screws and set the guide cams rst (identi ed by spots in the illustration). The follower cams will turn in the
opposite direction.
• Precise adjustment is achieved by alternating the rotation of both cams distally (lower) and proximally (upper).
